Has a wedge of SH, and is pretty much immaculate except a few scuffs. Now to find a car to put the engine in!

haha I was gonna ask if you were breaking it :) Best thing for a Calibra, donating it's heart to a worthy Nova or Corsa lol.
Nice buy mate.

Looks in good nick. I had a valver Calibra, nice cars IMO. Did you buy it purely to break it then?

I'm unsure to be honest, I've been looking for one for a while now to break for the engine but with no success. I only paid £500 for this one and it really was a steal. As said it has a stack of history and is extremly clean. I have been driving it round and actually quite like it! The heated leather is so comfy! Time will tell i guess...

TBH for that price i would keep it and clean it up abit! Nice colour and looks in good nick rust wise. I'm sure someone will have an LET engine for sale soon enough.

If it's got a working transfer box, you've done exceptionally well there.

I loved the one I had, wish I hadn't sold it.

ecotec? is this the same as a c20let?
as i thought the let was pre ecotec.
nice car by the way sounds like a steal.

/\ its an ectoec plug cover, not an ecotec engine.

Unfortunatley the transfer box isn't working, i picked a 68k mile one up from eBay last week for £40 so should be an easy fix. Does anyone know what the maximum difference in tread depth front to rear is allowable without straining the TXB? The front tyres have approx. 6mm depth and the rears 2mm; I'm assuming this is probably what caused the TXB to let go?

Yes just an Ecotec plug cover. I believe they were fitted to some of the LET's from the factory.

I think it's a couple of mm, tyre pressures are also a factor. I had a locked box fitted to mine, but still had to watch tread depths and pressures.

looks a nice car could do with a good clean tho

Safest option if you are fitting a new transfer box, is to do the Fuse 19 modification, that way you can switch between 2wd & 4wd, keeping 4wd for the wet/icy conditions.

Cheers, don't suppose you remember what the tyre pressures are supposed to be? I did check, possibly 33 front & 30 rear?

The car is currently running in 2WD with Fuse 19 removed, am i right in thinking that the TXB fluid & PAS fluid are on the same circuit, and that the car will dump the PAS fluid into the TXB to cool it? It's using PAS fluid and i've only had the chance to have a quick look under the bonnet.

I can't remember pressures I'm afraid mate, has been a few years.

Yeah, the transfer box and the power steering is linked.

Ok cheers for the help. I'll probably whip the TXB off this weekend and blank off the F28 to run in 2WD permanently. I'd like to take the broken box apart to have a look at strengthening/locking it.

How hard it is to blank the F28 to run 2wd, ill be getting a let cali soon enough and running in the Nova.

well, if all goes to plan which it never does lol.

Just blank off the Txb output on the box.

TXB's can vary in type. Some are 2 wires & some have one IIRC.

Excessive lowering / camber can kill them too, as the wheel effectively gains circumference when cambered.

How'd you know its got a COSCAST head?

Paul
16-12-08, 05:14 PM
can tell by looking at the shape of the lugs on the front of the head, however, I cant tell myself from those pics!

So why are the coscast heads so good?

Paul

less prone to cracking.
