hi there. i am after a bit of advice..

i have got a 1300 sr engine with a 1200 carb'd head on it (standard) but not convinced that it is running 100%..

i bought the 1300 sr as a non runner so never heard it before i put it in my car but it has never seamed to be right..

i am going to do a compression test tomorrow, what should i expect?

what will show if it is still in reasonable condition..

cheers

Greg

maybe the 1.2 carb is not suppling the 1.3 engine with enough fuel. when i was using a 1200 engine with 1.3 carb it floods it if you accelerate too quick.

was running a 1.2 carb until tonight..changed over to twin weber 40's, thinking that it would be the 1.2 carb causing it not to run 100%..but no, exactly the same with 40's on..

it doesnt seem like its missfiring, just very worn?

my 1400 sr with 1300 head and webbers went like stink and revved alot better compared to my 1300 with 1200 head..

i ran a rebored 1300 (out to 1400) with a 1.2 carb & inlet. it ran fine & gave 35mpg on general A road driving.

my advice is to find a proper old school garage with mechanics who know how to set up an engine.. a lot of places have forgotten how to do them these days

Cant r4eally say what it should be, depends on a lot of things.
Comparing dthe readings between cylinders is whats more important really

Try doing a leak down test

Here you go mate http://autos.yahoo.com/maintain/repairqa/engine/ques057_1.html
Well worth doing. Easy to make a tester too. From a tyre inflator and a compression tester.

Whats the ignition timing at 4000 rpm?
