hi all
im a sign writer and i used to make number plates (show plates) on the side. since the first of november the law has changed and i am no longer allowed to sell show plates or i get a £5000 fine.
i know they are tightening down on them and i knew there was fines involved if caught, but a friend of mine as a p1 imprezza and i done him as set on the sly, he was driving to bluewater in kent and the traffic police stoped him and issued him 6 points:eek: (3 for the front plate and 3 for the back plate) so be warned. lucky enough i got away with it as he said he got them off the net. anything that differs from a standard dvla registered plate with set letter spacing and size and the 4 fonts dvla give you is ilegal.
ive taken my black and silver ones off my e55 tonight
just thought ide let you all know:thumb:
3 points for a plate! Not heard of that before, what a joke.

Nope it's true! and you cant even have anything on the standard plate, if it came from the factory with nothing then it must stay that way.
If you get some made with say a griffin badge/England flag/Scotland flag etc on the one side they'll do you for that, the only thing you can have is the legal EU logo's..
w&nk yes,but also good as i hate all these cvnts who have silly crap all over the plate's like the car make,or some immigrant who's got there national flag on it!

What about shabba plates lol
by these I mean the more reflective ones that are spaced and sized fine but are pretty much speed-trap proof - do you get points for driving with these on??
and if anybody knows exactly what I am on about, where on earth can I get somebody to make some up for me?

They don't work lol
There's a chap on CCUK called johny who always wins the "services to police funds" every year as he quite often runs with show plates on and is always getting £60 fines. No points as yet though...

I watched a brit cop program once, on sky one i think and they was following a car that to the naked eye the plates looked fine but on there anpr cameras it could not been seen just a blurr?

griffin badge/England flag/Scotland
you are aloud those on startin from april 09
A load of crap. But 6 points?? Jesus christ !
Im guessing he was doing somthing else as well to be pulled over, was it a stupid style font?
It would be down to the copper what they wanted to do, obviously a bad day. Anything over than standard font/size probably cant be read by the auto cameras crap they have, which means it wont check for tax/insurance, which means they cant catch people.
Suppose its not such a bad thing in a way, less likely to get away with no insurance etc

the cameras read mine fine, thanks lol
i bet the coppers just wanted to see the p1 because they are rare and tasty lol
We had a thing through at work about plates and as a motor dealer we can't even have a company logo or marque logo printed on the plate. Instead we have to buy surrounds at £400 for 200! if we want to advertise
^^^Whys that then, as youre allowed to have the dealer name/place who made up the plates on the bottom and thats it, i work for a renault mainstealers called trenton and all of our plates say "trenton hull" on them or "trenton renault"

the traffic police were happy with my scotland plates and at the end of the day points mean prizes.
lol - this is crazy - the "Performance Nova Group" plates are okay as they are "show plates" - and are obviously no for road use!
Although I almost forgot to remove mine when leaving PV08!
lol

lol
Ive seen soooo many people do that its unreal, was marshalling cars out of the motorshow we ran in hull a few months back and two lads from a site called blackcatcustoms forgot theirs too, i had to stop em both and point out that "bmw 320i" and "blackcatcustoms" werent real reg numbers and should be taken off before the feds at the park gates spotted them lol
I got a £30 fine for my old rear plate, cause the lettering was 5mm to small...
Thats just being pedantic imo, there was a lad around here a few years back with a claibra and he swapped his reg plates for ones saying "DEANO" and where the slogan bit or dealer name would be at them bottom he wrote the correct reg.
He could only get a £30 fine for not displaying his plate correctly as technically he was still displaying his reg (albeit in very small latters it was still there) lol

ive made thousands of plates up over the years as i said. and ive seen some right silly ones, but i done a yamaha r1 plate once and the guy bought a wrigleys chewing gum packet in and wanted it the same size. i done it and the lettering was only 5mm high and the plate was on velcro. now that taking the pi**

I got done with my old nova years back as the front one was too small, although the spacing was fine, i think i might sell the reg plate on the nova and put the normal ones on it.
Scott
Wasnt the plate, that was ok, wasnt even the font whichisnt right.
It was 5mm to small lettering...

IMO it's all a load of ****, i think as long as your rear plates OK then the front should not matter(my dad said some car's never had front plates years back) but now I'm guessing you need them as the cameras probably need to see them form front and back etc.

i got a plate made up for my gte at pv this year, i got it done to standard lettering and is identical to a normal plate with the same font and spacing, it just doesnt have the postcode at the bottom, my rear plates standard and came from halfords, are they both cushty?
The main thing coppers look for is the BSAU code/number bottom right corner of the plate, if its got this then youre safe as that means its been done by a registered plate makers, if it doesnt then a jobsworth copper will do you for it iirc.

if i keep the original plate it the car with me will that make me safe? as i could just swap it back to normal. that or engrave my own postcode in with a compass lol!
Errr, no lol
Depends on the copper. These days, most are wise to the "oh sorry officer, I've just come from a show and forgot to change them" so will fine you anyway
i made plates back in the early nineties & our firm simply wouldn't make dodgy plates...... we were asked to do it a lot but we refused....
to this day, I get annoyed if I see a dodgy plate, the worst one I've seen is J100NAS which was tricked up to read Fionas

Man thats a bad one, there is a ford galaxy up the road from me and his plate says R Kahn i think its r17han but cant actually tell, his mrs has Y45MYN reads Y4SMYN his has now been put back to standard but hers remains!
I thought if the car was post 2001 then it HAS to have the postcode/BASU number on there, but pre 01 and you dont need that stuff..
I have 100% legally sized/fonted/spaced plates with with nothing on them (how I like it really) and they were still sold as show plates lol, but odds on if someone was pedantic then it would be an issue
