What size/offset wheels do you have, and what size tyres?

Mine is lowered 60mm with 15" Cesaros, 195/60/R15 tyres and that fills the arches nicely, no rubbing. Ride is good (for a Nova), probably would be quite harsh if it wasn't for the big tyres. Thats with PVD XE springs and Koni adjustable dampers.

My old hatchback had Spax adjustables, 15" OZ Exclusives on et38, 195/45/15 tyres and rubbed like a biyatch on the back even with rolled arches. We had to swap the rear 60mm springs for 50mm ones as the 60 was too low on those wheels. Ride was a bit of a boneshaker.

saloon or hatchback?

best bit is to save for some coilovers and you can set and adjust to how you like.

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/9400/1001927pshi4.jpg

Lowered ~30mm on 195/45/15 ET43

Handling much much better then standard still comfortable for Nova standards.

Only slight rubbing on one rear arch when theres 2+ people in the back. Fine over speed bumps.

35-40 drop is the best compromise IMO.

Going too low ruins the mid-bend characteristics & driveability out on the road. Any lower & the camber becomes an issue, besides cars that are too low look knackered.

I should give you negative rep for that comment!

The 1st part of your statement is very true tho. I use to love my old Courtney bilstein setup. It was around a 35mm drop and great even on B roads. Just didn't look that cool tho. I changed to coilovers because the Courtenay setup just wasn't low and stiff enough for track for my liking.

I like the way mine fills the arches nicely, I don't like cars that shove the wheels right up under the arch. Which is probably why I don't like the hatchback, as unless you have standard height suspension, the wheels get very close to the arch.

Looking at that last pic I think I may space the rears out a little if I can

that saloon looks tidy i must admit
still cant deciede though, maybe just have a little play around with my coilovers at different heights!
im still convinced that i have a weird fetish with slammed novas though ! i just want to see some nice clean examples so i can deciede on something.

Not sure if you refer to the Courtenay XE spec springs but the best Nova I've ever been in handling wise was 1600 8v running Courtenay/deCarbon clubman kit. No longer available but it was fecking sweet. Pretty low upfront with the rear raked up a tad. It was amazing in the country lanes here.

[edit] Heres my GSi with a full KONI top adjustable kit.

Compared with all the cheap tat out there, this kit rides & handles so well.

Mine was/is dropped -60mm on shocks and springs. Spax adjustables IIRC. 15" wheels with 195/45/15 tyres. Some scrubbing under hard cornering, but a small price to pay IMO.

A couple of FACTS for you -

A nova on 15" with 195/45/15 tyres under standard inner arches won't go lower than this -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/fearlessmotorsport/9206024.jpg

How Do I know its a fact - because it touches the inner arch like so -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/fearlessmotorsport/9206029.jpg

So can't go any lower without serious modifications like so -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/fearlessmotorsport/41106042pixel.jpg

Running 16" alloys now - but can probably go another 50mm lower if I wind the coilovers down !!! - without catching lol - only the sill on the floor :thumb:

I know youre pain chappy...
Mine's a biatch too. Think its sat on the bumpstops, front.. Something im trying to sort on the car now, anyway.
Im another one with front coilovers so unsure of drop, but it is lower than 60mm. Rear are non-coilover setup; 4" custom springs and uprated dampers.

Both valid points imo, its too difficult to get it low low low so it looks sweet but still have practicality. If I get another more grown up car then I may consider going down the coilover route. But the 30 - 35 drop serves me well, I can drive it fully laiden with passengers (man does it sit LOW) and its very nice to drive on the H&R's.

Really loved your Red Nova Simps such a fine example dunno what it was with that car but the softstars looked even better on it, that and Benn's Blue turbo rimmer. Both perfectly styled Nova's :thumb:
