How is this wired up, all i have is the thick red cable from the battery and then runs from the starter to alternator. what else is involved? can this be made up?

Right you need a poisitive from the battery to the starter then another red wire going from that same starter point to the alternator. To help with earthing you should really have an earthing strap going from the alternator to the bolt that holds the alternator bracket on. also a little wire should go into one of the male pins at the back of the alternator, this is a the remote wire. if you need to know what colour it is i can have a look just instant message me.

Ok i've got the red cable from the battery which then shoots over to the alternator and i've also got the earth strap for the alternator in place.

I'm thinking there needs to be a switched live to the starter motor?

Earth is delt with through the block. The starter will have a trigger wire from the loom and thats it.

Black with a Red trace IIRC.

Actually the black with red trace goes to the starter motor, the remote for the alternator is a blue wire with a white trace

Right i've got the starter sorted and the car now turns over on the key.

I have a blue/white wire from the dial plug, should this go to the alternator?

yes it should go into one of the male blades on the back of the alternator. u may need to purchase a female clip to put it in, this should be the switch
