Recently bought this from ebay
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/f4d2_1.jpg
A thread was started about who was going to buy it, and i did feel it was a bit of a risk as that was the only picture but it turned out to be pretty clean. Especially for £75! Had a light tap at the front which pulled out and needs a skim of filler. a few rusty bits here and there but ive paid a lot more for cars in worse condition.
So basically my plan is to turn it around pretty quickly with a full respray and engine conversion. So far its been stripped including engine. The idea for it is to be smooth and low, but with "old school" looks. Already smoothed the boot lock and holes for rear panel, passenger door handle and lock and considering smoothing the scuttle area (Unsure of that though). Inside the car i want comfort so looking for nice seats, current favourites are Audi S3 recaros with a gsi dash. The door cards however would be an issue, does anyone know if you can perhaps vinyl spray the original door cards? A half cage would be good too. The engine going in is a 1600 16v from a corsa, it did have a dbilas but had to sell it to pay rent lol .
Heres a photoshop of what i want it to look like eventually

The guy that had it before me chucked them. Trying to get some more though. If you like it, buy it :D
if your selling it for 50p i may just be able to lol
The hatch looks mint! How much and where you from? lol
Get some proper bucket seats and less interior ! You know it makes sense lol Still not convinced on the white either. White is for wheels. :)

Sounds like a good plan mate, best of luck. Like the idea of some nice seats, something different hey, i'd just go around and look at some random nice cars and see what catches your eye, would make a nice twist to have something all comfy any electric eh. As regards to the engine i have a 1.6 16v here from a 95 Astra with 57k, complete with loom, ecu and all ancillaries etc if your intrested at all ??

andrew1988

Hatch is almost completely standard, just got a german plate on back. Want around £800 for it. Im in Essex and Oxford, can deliver within reason between those areas.
DW-Nova: Thats ok mate, thanks for the offer but already got the engine

Im not convinced on white either mark, was thinking of like a red and cream the other day? Engine bay is already sprayed though

Just bought same alloys as on this golf, havnt got a pic of the actual alloys. They have a very low offset so means ill have to flare the arches a bit :D
Theyre 16" too so should fill the arches nicely

You'll probably find it'll handle like a bag of nails if the offset is too low.

screw the engine bay, i fancy mine white or grey and the cars red lol red and cream in what style? Have to send me a photoshop if you got one.

Without sounding too stupid, whys that? I am looking to eventually get the porsche wheels so will be much wider than the vaux wheels
Wider track width to the wheelbase screws up the balance, and you're also rotating the wheels on the front on a sort of arc shape because the wheels are offset from the steering knuckles if that makes sense?
Should be more responsive/twitchier and unpredictable, and feel a bit weird on the steering front, not sure what it would do handling wise with the steering tbh, you've got my copy of tune to win atm tho, look it up lol

So no updates for ages as not really done anything. Car is stripped, Just bare shell with windows and dash. Think ive changed my mind on the original photoshop. I thought about doing it red with gte kit and lengthening the rear bumper. Was after seeing the red gte in the projects section. Got engine sorted properly now, just got to pick it up next week. Got the c16xe from corsa gsi so its still fairly cheap to insure.
Im thinking about something different for brakes too. Im looking at fiat coupe turbo brembo front brakes. I know ill need a better master cylinder and an adapter plate but im unsure of what discs to use. Can anyone shed some light? Could i just re-drill the fiat discs or are there 4 stud vaux discs that i could use? And would a corsa gsi master cylinder be good enough?
Also bought these
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/4237_1.jpg
Im very happy with them as it'll be something a bit different and comfortable too. I believe theyre out of a porsche 993
Re: the selling parts to pay the rent- you a student by any chance!?!lol
I'm sure if seen the fiat coupe calipers being used before and I think they
just redrilled the discs.
Nice seats, you'll have to go for white/cream paint now for a nice contrast between the leather.
Ps nice wheels!
Keep it up dude!!

Haha! How did you guess? Fell short one month and needed £300. Easiest thing to do was to sell my dbilas!

Be nice to graft on some Mk1 Golf arch repair panels onto a saloon then fit the GTi arch extensions, could look pretty smart.

Also shortened rear bumper(side sections) or quarter bumpers would look good with the arches
Trying to convince him to go for no bumper and smoothed on the back  Took it off when we started the strip down and I could see him looking at the back end same way i was lol

What do you mean by this? Im confused :wtf:
This has all confused me now lol . Was thinking of going with a gte kit and in red but now im unsure. May have a look into funky "euro" colours with skinny bumpers and arch extensions.
Going to many happy hours on photoshop

If you look at this one the bumpers finish at the corners of the car.
By shorter I meant the rear finishing half way between the back corner of the car and the rear edge of the arch.
Corner bumpers are a lot smaller, like a small piece of bumper about 10-12" long on each side that just goes around the corner a couple of inches, a bit like Mk1/Mk2 Escort ones.
Either of these would work nice with Mk1 Golf GTi arches. Go fo a nice colour, do a bit of smothing and slam it on some wide rims and it would look the dogs danglies

With

The bumpers would need to be smoothed as would never get the ribs to match up.
What do you think?

without the arches looks so much better ,
(less is more) has they say! imo

The problem is the original arches stop at the bumpers so you will need to make some alteration to the arches. I think the GTi arches with the black extensions will look good, you need a really good photoshop to get a better idea.
OI! Picture theif!lol
Shortened front bumpers would also look good, thought about doing that myself before.
Is that jetta colour what your thinking of Jayme?

Would g60 arches maybe better for this as they are bigger :thumb:
I want a good photoshop as well :D

Thanks for the comments guys. Im sold on the idea on shortened bumpers. This is a ps with g60 arches.

In other news i bought this
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/3f3e_1.jpg
Pieces are slowly coming together now. Its definately going to take longer than i originally intended but then again the project has changed.
Other than the arches i need two bits of advice.
I cant find a gsi dash cheap or anywhere near me, could the mk1 dash be sprayed so thats its black? I know it could come across cheap and tacky but saw one the other day that looked alright. What are your opinions on this and how can it be done?
The second bit of advice is about brakes. Im looking for something a bit different for front brakes. I know brackets will need making up whatever i choose but i cant think of what to look for. So far ive been looking at brembos and stuff from ap racing. Ideally it needs to be from a production car and 4 pot
jesus that saloon looks soooo right, get it done!!!
R32/R33 Skyline GTR aluminium 4 pots mate? Can be had cheap on occasion.
Keep up the good work.

how's this coming along?
andrew1988
31-03-09, 10:36 AM
Hmm, not much has changed to be honest. Spent most of my time sorting out a car for the road.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/DSC00010.jpg
But heres how the saloon stands right now. Ive got a few days here and there to do it but never really get a chance to just work on it and nothing else. Getting the paint next week hopefully and welding can start on the wings so the shortened bumpers will look better. Just been busy with race cars too, my friends race 924s and season starts in 3 weeks. Struggling to get them done.
But more about the saloon!
Heres how it stands
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/DSC00005.jpg
It looks bad, i know. But work will start again soon. Waiting on bits from ck that seem to be taking a while. Got some 288's to go on and need to find rear shocks, leather rear bench, door cappings and a standard mk 2 dashboard.
But will crack on again and start updating this thread. Im definatelt going to stick with a smallblock 16 valve but cant decide which one now. Will prob stick with a 1600 but im being tempted by the dark side of the force, an x18xe1
