Looks like its been put together well!

Nice engine conversion too - not that rare though it used to be one of the most common conversions in teh old days for rallying!

bit of info now then..

this will be my first rally car, which i am planning on doing alot of test days/track days/sprints/hillclimbs before i am 17 to try and get used to the car..i was out at Hallburn in Longtown in Cumbria testing it about 2 weeks ago, it was a rush to get it there but got it finished the day before..engine had only been in two nights or something.

the car is a very good spec, eventually the engine bay will get tidied but thats the way it is just now until i have a bit more money..

full spec-

Shell- Fully seam welded and strengthened shell, multipoint roll cage, alloy foot rest, fibregalss bateery box mounted in rear, Elliot 8k rev counter, Corbeau Sprint seats and TRS harnesses, alloy seat frames, Lifeline extinguisher system, TRS helmet net, alloy 10mm sump gaurd and steel tabk gaurds.

Engine/Gearbox- 1300 16v suzuki engine, Weber 40's, T N McKean head, lightened and balnced, competition paddle clutch, 4 branch manifold and full Janspeed competition exhaust system, Close Ratio box with LSd with f20 side gears to run drivelink driveshafts with f20 joints, Corsa internal gear linkage setup, solid competition engine mounts, twin facet redtop fuel pumps and braided hose, filter king regualator, Volswagon G3 (i think) radiator and hoses for better cooling and plumbing.

Suspension-Proflex 2 way adjustable front coilovers with works type super progressive springs and eccentric alloy top mounts,Magnesium rear coilovers, quick rack with an adjustable power steering setup, alloy rack mounts, heavy duty bottom ball joints (uniballs), rose jointed caster/camber brackets, group a heavy duty front hubs/uprights.

Brakes- Wilwood 4 pot front braskes with vented discs, polybushed rear axle with rear disc cobversion using sierra big callipers, bias pedal box with bottles and adjuster, braided brake lines, hydraulic handbrake.

its not the way i would like it though..before i start rallying i want to fit a Qauife SCCR box with 4.8 CWP (the gearing thats in it just now, will allow it to pull 145mph) no good for rallying..

also need a set of 4 rally alloys, the wheels are on it were just flung on to get me to the test day..

also want to get the engine hauled back out and checked/re-built again with cams, bike carbs as the 40's are getting a bit tired..

test day went well, we had been having trouble with steering column putting it on trailer the night before the event and on my second run it broke all together..so we put a spare column on we had and after i knew it was "right" i was alot more confident and starting pushing the car a bit harder.

it was very slippy though as you will see from pics/videos, i put it off the road on one of the runs, hit a pile of wood/lorry tyre. i actually got stuck up on top of them. was just pure ice where i went off, guy in a fiesta st rally car did the exact same but couldnt carry on, he bent his back axle so i got off with it lightly..

Will F, it is rare nowadays..

but as you say a while back alot of the top rally novas were running swift engines..these are amazing engines for 1300's...cant believe how well it went for a fairly standard engine..

Spec is really awsome on this car Greg - You'll need to take me out in it one time at Kames or something :)

Excellent stuff, I really envy you man lol .

Whats that, 2 Novas built already and now this, and your only 16! And you do the work yourself too iirc? Or most of it?

You still at school?

Fair play.

err, built my road car and autotest car, started building my other rally car and then this one..also helping with my mates sri project..complete re-build.. done alot more than just that though, did odd bits and pieces on other novas, had about 10 or more novas and either stripped/broke them or sscrapped them.built my autotest car a few times..lol

the work is mostly done by me, try to do as much as possible on my own, nothing better than doing it/learning then getting rewarded by driving something like this!

and yes i am only 16, just left school. i am an apprentice plumber.bring in some cash to help pay for these!

greg1.4
10-12-08, 06:44 PM
cheers for the other comments also,

Adam, they are little flyers..i have known some of them to be close to 200bhp before (thats with a fair bit of work mind) thats crazy for a 1300!

about 5-10 years ago, everybody raved about suzuki engines, especially the rally boys, all the top scottish rally championship boys were running suzuki's.

now i think people would prefer the 1400 16v but i still like these for reliabilty, cheap easy power and so easy to work on/keep going.

I wonder why nobody puts a swift 1300 engine into a road car. Well I've never seen or heard of any anyway.

Fuel consumption etc is bound to be similar to a x14xe on a std engine.

very nice car :D does the suzuki engine bolt straight in then?

watch this space....

greg1.4
10-12-08, 10:57 PM
no the suzuki does not bolt straight in..you need a gearbox adaptor/spacer plate and a drivers side mount..

few other wee mods needed also..

plumbing is the hardest bit of it, because all pipes on a suzuki are over on the right hand side of engine (none from head to rad on left)

wiring is easy..standard starter wiring, alt needs an extra wire put in, re-route water temp wire, re-route oil pressure wire..thats about it i think.

my mate who bought it has been navigating for me in the src so hasnt has the time or money put to it but its been welded and will soon be ready for the swift engine dropped in and hopefully be out in late 2009/2010 as i will be taking a year out and he will be driving so you wil see it flying through the woods soon!!:thumb:

Looks good greg, not too gen'd up on suzuki engines but what bhp do they make std? Alot more than a 1.3 sr I know as my mate had a 1.3 gti and left me for dead! lol

greg1.4
13-12-08, 02:02 PM
yeah i am going to have a bash at src/strc..

they make just over 100bhp in standard form..

they are also alloy blocks, very light engines.

Hi, I never throught of going doen the Suzuki engine root in my nova, cheap easy power. But saying that i bought a 1.3 vauxhall rally engine built by peter maiden producing 130 BHP for £350! What sort of rallying do you do? Single venues or national rounds?
