As tuneable and reliable as an RST.

cars being old don't bother me to be honest as long as parts are easy to find :thumb:

i bought one and sold it within 9 days of owning it. it realy depends on what you want, you have to keep on top of them or they will go wrong. they are fun to drive and i hink they are nice to look at. they are very tunable depending how deep your pocket goes. the best thing is to find the best example you can, when buying an old ford you realy get what you pay for so expect to pay 2k if not more for something decent. thats my opinion anyway.

Exactly, tidy ones will cost a fortune....

Sh!tters will cost a fortune to get to a decent standard...

Parts will be getting harder to find just like novas...

So being old counts for a lot these days, dont get me wrong im not slating them as i think they look cool as i had an XR2i which obviously is the non turbo version but they have hub/wheelbearing/gearbox problems for one.

A garage i was at the other day had a mint (and i use that term correctly as it was concours and owned by a 73 y/o guy from six months old) and they couldnt get an exhaust for it for love nor money, even ford couldnt get one so he had to get an aftermarket one lol

heat of the moment, impulse buy but it wasnt what i realy wanted. i was just starting stock car racing and a pajero came up at the right price so i sold the fiesta to have the pajero as my tow car. so the fiesta had done nothing wrong, my heart just wasnt in it. however i do look back and wonder about the happy times we could of had. lol

just like to add, if i was to go for an older ford turbo'd car again i would without a doubt consider having one again.

Had 2No hence my user name.... lol

Very good cars and higher underated.

Getting thin on the ground these days especially standard ones....

+ points: Relatively quick standard, huge tuning scope potential, as said rare...

-points: Suffer with tin worm i.e. floor pans and rear arches and fuel cap area, heavy low speed steering, looked upon as a poor mans RS?

Have owned a consourse standard minter - RSOC national day winner which I should have never have sold! & a mildly tuned road rocket (175bhp @ the wheels) which was awesome fun and surprised many a higher powered car from cossies to type r's etc...

Anyway some pic whoring....

I have a mint standard exhaust - it was on my grey car for 6 months. Sat in my loft lol.

yer i remember my uncle telling me about getting a head gasket for his sierra cosworth it cost less to get a multi layered uprated version then a standard one from ford lol

my mate has had 3 escort rs turbo's they are not exactly quick and they are so unreliable!! hes had to series 2's and now hes got a series 1! 2 off them being his latest and his last were fully restored body wise and the engines were rebuilt but he's had no end off problems with them nice to look at though!!

how does he drive them tho? my dad had one as a daily runner for 2 years without any problems atall. it just depends on how you treat them imo.

Ive been in a standard escort turbo and tbh i wasnt too impressed tbh but theyre bigger/heavier and iirc they run a different engine to a fezzy turbo as theyre machanical injection whereas fezzys are mpi iirc?

What you haved got to remember with these cars is they are no spring chickens and many have passed through numerous hands etc and been driven hard.

You get what you pay for IMO... My bro brought a 1 owner B plate Series 1 with 29k on it for 6.5k some years ago. It drives tight and has average performance for its age. These were quick back in the day but 2008 is another era... His is an appreciating classic (Now valued at 12k by the RSOC) and is a toy a not so quick toy... Power delivery is old skool etc with lag....

Trouble is people compare performance to much newer machines etc.

Your average S2 owner back in the day fitted koni's, scorpian exhaust and chip and thought they were world beaters... back then they were quick today a diesel mondeo is as quick... lol

Yes T2 which is virtually lag less and can peak at 16psi in the right trim;)

Would love another old skool RS i.e. S1 ERST or another FRST but have have decided to go new Skool RS and cant afford both...

New skool I mean new skool...;) lol

I ran a T2 hybrid, beiges, FMIC, mongoose, samco's etc but more importantly a well messed with head and cam and Bayjoo live map and was well over 200 at the fly running 16psi peak...

ho much dose a live map cost then mate

Mint FRST
09-12-08, 10:24 PM
I paid 450.00 IIRC.

The map was custom to my engine/intercooler and turbo set up though.

You can get off the shelf generic chips which offer similar performance gains.

My car was set up to suit my driving style i.e. knocking round the local race tracks.. sorry mean the streets. lol

is it definitely a cossie bottom end and not a zetec one as most are

Adam*D
10-12-08, 08:01 PM
^^^^ Don't think it will be a cossie bottom end tho, most prob a zetec, why would anyone put a CVH head on a cossie bottom? that is of course if it would fit!

Pistol Pete
10-12-08, 08:07 PM
More than likely to be a zetec bottom end.

Turbojolt: have you been on www.passionford.com (http://www.passionford.com) ?

I'd love a FRST, i have a copy at the mo, an XR2i but would love to drop a turbo lump in but i'm a ford modding virgin so cant be bothered really!!

Very true point about them being ragged, but then what car like this hasnt? It is also true, you get what you pay for!

i have had a look around on it in the past but not recently

Talon

as already stated in this thread you get what you pay for.

im on my second erst, just picked it up 65k miles from new, 4 owners, FFSH, a bit of rust but nothing major completely standard. but you will pay a bigger price for this.

my last one had about 190bhp, t34, chip, smacos, exhaust, filter set up by pe etc.

and it was reliable after id done the headgasket lol.

the cvh is a good little engine if you make sure its always got good oil and its warmed up and left to cool down etc. there unreliable because there 20 years old and so many morons have bought them and wound up the boost without doing anything else, hence its goona be unreliable.

i love them to bits think they look great and have masses of tuning potential.

I sold my nova XE to buy my ERST:eek: So far since owning in I've covered 28 miles in it as it's always broke:cry: The car it's self is mint and had just had a full engine rebuild less than 400 miles ago before I bought it, now I've just finnished putting another engine into it that I rebuilt so I know it's good. Like anything else, looked after correctly and they'll live forever, wind up the boost and tears will be on there way to your face:D

RSTChris

I used to break these, did 11 in 12months and have to say some of them were complete dogs, 3 out of the 11 were very nice motors

I had a 2.1 Zetec Turbo 300 bhp and that was awesome
