I'm currently getting everything ready to do my c20xe conversion over the two week shut down at Christmas. The only gearbox that I seem able to lay my hands on, locally and cheap, is an f18. I've tried the search function and having a look at some project threads but can't seem to find any info on why i can't or shouldn't use this gearbox. I know the history of the box and it should be a good un but there must be a reason why is not use in favour of the f16 and f20. I had a f16 on my previous xe'd nova and it just seemed to wheel spin a lot if the conditions were not perfect, does this mean I should look harder for an f20 as I'm informed it maybe slightly better in British weather

What is the difference, not the figures but on the road and how do you tell? Presuming by part numbers?

the numbers stamped in the end plate of the box.
Be something like 3.54CR, which would be 3.54 final drive, with a Close Ratio cluster

The f18 is a weak as piss box tho. Ecotecs kill them quite easily.
Just use the F20.
