View Full Version : spare wheel
is there any laws/mot regulations which say u gotta have some sorta spare wheel or similar alternative? (like the foam stuff u can put in to cure a puncture)
You dont have to carry a spare but if you do it has to be fully legal i.e. if you carry a spare with a bald tyre you can get done if you carry no spare you cant :?
im sure this is right, unless anyone knows different

U dont need a spare wheel as far as I know. Best to carry some of that foam just in case you get a flat though.
when one of my tyres failed the mot the tester said to jsut swap it with the spare, i then asked if that would then fail me for an illegal spare. he said "it dosent have to be tested so as fasr as im concerned its not there"

how does this foam stuff work??
ive never wanted to try / buy it for fear of rendering my tyre fooked
is it like expanding foam u use for building work??
once used, can it be removed when you have the puncture fixed so the wheel can be used as normal or is that it then the tyre is fooked?

You don't have to carry a spare. If you do, it must be road legal.
The tyre weld stuff is just expanding foam that re-inflates the tyre.
Most tyre places will then fix the puncture (if possible), even though some of them don't like it when you've used the stuff.
