Before we all go to brum for the karting bash, I thought I'd start a thread to give non midlanders an insight into the legendary city.....

1. the main shopping centre is named after a daddy cows bottom.

2. there are more miles of canals in brum than in venice

3. the karting centre is a part of the Wheels project. it was funded by the government because they misheard a brummy talking about it & thought it was a project about 'Whales'

4. the 'kipper tie' is a local beverage made from boiling dried leaves & then adding milk & sugar.

5. the words 'yam', 'yom', & 'yow' translate as 'you' in English.

6. neither the NEC or Birmingham Airport are in birmingham.... they are in solihull

7. pork scratching is not a sport or pastime

I think that was the post office tower that had its rotary top blown up, it is in london, a town in the south of england.
the rotunda was the target of the birmingham pub bombings, in the early seventies killing dozens & injuring hundreds. the pubs were actually in part of the rotunda complex
