I am considering running my 1300 SR on carbs (twin 40's?). Has anyone had experience in this? Where can I get a decent new inlet manifold? induction? Modding fuel supply? And as for tuning them correctly?
Any helpful advice appreciated.....
Cheers.

Much loved 1987 Nova SR

New manifold>>> http://www.tuning.co.uk/vauxshop/en-gb/dept_635.html

Fuel supply - Use the standard mechanical pump, fit a fuel pressure regulator set at 3 bar like this >>>> http://www.tuning.co.uk/vauxshop/en-gb/dept_635.html

Tuning - Rolling road, take time to find someone close with a good reputation for your carbs

Induction - ????

heheh, imagine 3 bar of fuel spraying out, would get a good 15 foot jet lol

Yep, it's for a 1.3.
I've been looking into the R1 4x motorbike carb conversion also. This conversion is sounding like a better alternative as they list the benefits as

1.More responsive throttle pedal
2.Fairly straight forward maintenence
3.Trouble free cold starting with manual choke
4.Just as reliable as Weber setup
5.More fuel efficient
6.Easier to set up
6.Cheaper to set up!
(they recon you can do it for under £300 if you take time shopping around for the bits)

Any members here done this conversion? Is it as good as it sounds?

leemondo, where did you get that list of benefits from?

1. I'd imagine the throttle response will be the same as the R1 carbs.
2. Twin 40's will be just as easy, if not easier to maintain (in fact, proivided you have them set up right, there should be no need to "maintain" them).
3. Provided you purchase the correct parts and get the twin 40's set up correctly, you shouldn't have any problems with starting the car.
4. Probably are.
5. Fuel efficiency is a strange one to quote, because lets face it, if you're sticking twin carbs on an engine, your doing it to get more power and to take advantage of that power your going to be heavier on the throttle, so if you're concerned about fuel economy don't stick carbs on in the first place.
6. A few screw adjustments and choke changes isn't exactly difficult. Any reputable tuning company will do it easily.
7. Can't comment, never priced up R1's, but imagine there won't be a lot in it.

I had twin webber carbs on my 1.6 8v. Jamsport in Northampton set them up and did a great job in doing so. Give them a call on 01604 755529 and ask to speak to Mark Broster, tell him Jim Kelly told you to phone them and he will help you out with any questions and may even be able to price up each conversion.

Hope this helps.

Jim.

you can get some fantastic fuel economy from Webers on a low throttle run :D I think we had something like 35mpg from Dans 1.6 on the trundle back from Anglesea to south Wales... oops Forrest of Dean :D

I run a 1400 8valve Nova on R1 bike carbs, it's my daily driver, mpg is fairly good, depends on my right foot, same as webbers tbh.
Been running them for about 6 months now, no problems as yet, and yes they are as good as webbers and are as good as they sound, your'e welcome to have a run in it.

Nice 1 mate! I knew there would be someone out there......

How much did the conversion cost you?
Where did you get the parts? etc

get the carbs!they are tried and tested and there will be more people willing to tune the carbs than the bike carbs.

I run Twin 40mm DCOE webbers on a 14NV block (1400 SR engine). I can't post pictures yet though as I haven't sent 15 posts!

Has been my daily drive in the past, and (touch wood, if it passes its MOT on monday) will be again, for a while anyway.

Lets face it, either way you are going to have to prepare yourself for a large fuel bill for the first month of having either of the carb setups fitted to your car as the sucking sound and the power you can produce from just pressing down with your right foot is phenomenal mate!

From my personal Webber experience I'd say go with Webbers;
-cheap to buy (these cost me £220ish on egay, fully reconditioned)
-no more than £150 for an inlet manifold and throttle linkage
-a bit of advice from some of us on here and a few photos of my/other similar setups will sort you out if you needed to figure out which pipe goes where and tune it to a drivable state
-about £100-£150 to have them setup propperly by a reputable tuning company once you have fitted them yourself

Bob's your uncle!

I got the carbs off the web, had some manifolds made, the rest was just stuff i'd had lying about for years, doing a 106 soon, the lad got a lot of his bits from Rally Design
