Quick question for the plumbers outhere!

What's the difference between an electrolytic scale inhibitor and a magnetic scale inhibitor?
I currently have a magnetic one, and its leaking out of the crap push fits. I've seen some gold ones that have good old compression fittings but they're electrolytic.
Can i safely fit the electrolytic one?

Shouldn't be a problem at all.
The magnetic just work by making sure the the positive and negative ions in the water are flowing the right way, and is a fit and forget item.
I beleive the electro ones operate on the same basis but use a very small electric current to do it instead of magnets and just require it to be plugged in.
