The company didn't have any 6000k ones in stock so these were the alternative.

Im not really bothered to be honest, they were free :thumb:

By the looks of that beam pattern youre going to give every oncoming car an instant suntan.

6000k is the best imo and you find you have to dip them down or everyone will assume you haveyour high beams on and will flash you!

Not so much cure it as held a little, as mike said its not really the beam height its the fact he has uber candle wattage of light emitting from his front end, theres too much light for the there to even be a beam pattern theres just going to be an aura of light around the front somewhere lol

Mike
04-12-08, 07:59 PM
That was the idea, there illegal for a reason.

Thats standard Nova headlight beam pattern?! Jeebus, I'm even more glad I don't use GM glass now, where the feck is that light going lol

I think the HID pic looks worse than it is as the camera hasn't adjusted too well to the light. They won't be as bright as they look. 10,000K will be interesting on dark roads, my 7,500K PIAA bulbs were pretty bad in terms of colour temperature tbh, and even my "6,000K" (which I suspect may be more like 7-8) are a bit dodgy at times

It has shown that HIDs don't suit Nova lamps at all though, as the beam pattern has changed completely between halogen and HID.

That before patton isnt right...
Get them ajusted, then click them down one.
They do look unbeileveable right tho.

8ks rule.

Now im not into barry lights at all but ive seen a few cars with them fitted, are they all illegal?

Spudly

If you have the correct headlights to line em up/fire the beam correctly then no theyre not but if you know special mot testers then youre sorted lol

Its a modified Nova, I doubt the headlights make it any more of a 'police magnet' lol

I've had HIDs on the Celica for over a year and never attracted any unwanted attention. However, the beam pattern is the same as halogen in my lamps.

Essentially, if the vehicle didn't come with HIDs as standard (or an option) then they're not legal. The whole lamp unit has to be E-approved to work with HID burners, have headlight washers, auto-levellers, etc.

But they will!, there not aligned properly, i will take it back to the garage and get them to set them up properly.

Theres no real such thing as "too bright", you can have illegal wattage halogen bulbs yes, but not so with HIDs as they dont work like halogens do...
Pretty much all modern cars will be running hids/xenons, so they cant be "too bright" else they couldn't use them........:thumb: 4300/6000/8000/10000k is the light colour/temp, not the brightness.

Jaysnova-Are you sure they are 10K, as they dont look like it to me. They look more like 8k. LOL @ the beam pic, just a massive blob of light lol
Ive had no problems from police with mine though, and ive never been flashed at by a passing car..... :)

Yes they are 10k. Beam pic is awfull! Its not just my camara being gay either, i saw when i picked it up today, the headlight beam was pointing up way to high, imo if i get the adjuted right down they "should" be ok?

Opinions please.

No there not ok, as they have no beam pattern, so send light everywhere instead of aiming in down to the road. Hence why they are illegal.
As long as you can get them sitting quite low though, and they dont blind people you should be ok.
As said, ive never had probs from other people with mine. They did fail the mot though.

He asked if they would be ok with beam down, you told him no,then said yeah they will be ok with beam pointing down?

Adam
04-12-08, 10:02 PM
There not ok as such, because they dont shine correctly(no matter what you do with the beam height)

But if you adjust them so they dont fully blind oncoming traffic, then you shouldn't have problems. I haven't...

Benn i assume you have 8ks?

I do,

Never had the cops pay any interest in them either.
Only been flashed on a very dark back road.

I adjusted mine on the mot ramps light machine, but like a bit of spray out lights so have moved them down to one click.

Wow looks like you have burned a quantum singularity into that wall lol .

The beam pattern on your original bulbs look very odd, seem to look like this > 6 6 . The proper beam pattery should be like so \___ \___ .

What kit have you used mate? Glad someone has got some pics up with HID's on a Nova. Get some pic up once you done the best allignment you can.

i bought a 6000k kit and adjusted them as low down as they would go but i got sick of everyone flashing me so i put the standard ones back in!they do give out a hell of a lot more light though!

HID driving light kit ftw. Entirely legal and as much full beam light as you could ask for :)
