View Full Version : Some advice needed please!
Ok, my stepdad called me a couple of days ago, and told me that as a joint christmas / birthday present, he is going to provide me with my first car and pay for the first years insurance. Sounds good to me, only downfall is, he's not prepared to buy me a nova. :(
Anyway, he's now gone out an bought himself an evo 7, and he's offered me his MG Rover 75:

There are good and bad points.
Firstly, I'm terrified of this car, it's huge, it's a 1.8 which is pretty fast for a first car, it's immaculate inside, it's got nice cream leather interior and a pretty cool screen inside that you can watch dvds and put your sat nav and music on, and I'd be petrified of crashing it. I also don't want to fall into the sterotyped 'daddy's little girl driving around in daddy's car', if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, it IS a lovely car, it would be free, and I wouldn't have to worry about the cost of the insurance, so I'm kinda thinking, why not?
What do you guys think? Should I go for it cos it's free or do the sensible thing and stick with an old banger? lol
Never turn down owt for nowt lol
You will get used to a big car soon enough. It wont be blisteringly quick as they are heavy motors.Insurance will be rather expensive for you but as your not paying it doesnt matter.Enjoy
Get it and sell it on!!
^ lol I don't think that was part of the deal!

what stoo said, personally i wouldn be caught dead behind the wheel of a rover
If you get the right Rover they are nice cars.
And Andy, I do want it, but it's not the kind of car I can have scrapes and bumps in, which as a new driver you inevitably do...
get a taxi sign off ebay & tell him that you have got a great idea how to raise funds for a nova..... he will relent
You shouldnt think so negative, you shouldnt have scrapes and bumps lol
Just get it and drive it around a quiet area for an hour or so,practicising certain everyday maneoveurs (on your own) and you will learn quick enough.
Can't see the pic (no pb at work) - MG, so its a ZT?
Insurance group 10, so it wouldn't be any more expensive than the Nova GSi you had a quote for a while back. In fact, probably less, as its a grandad car lol
Yes its a big car, but you'll soon get used to that. You're getting all those mods cons for free, so why not? TBH anyone who complains that mummy & daddy gave you a car is just jealous.
I've already had a quote on it and I was quite surprised, not nearly as bad as I thought, but that wouldn't matter anyway, as I wouldn't be paying for it.
Seems like the general vote is to take it, I missed the oppourtunity of a poll. lol
Seems like common sense is to take it, I missed the oppourtunity of a poll. lol

Do it, novas are over rated anyway.
lol ride burgo hahah , and video it lol
From Nova to Rover = From Frying pan to fire.
It will be lovely till you need parts :)
Get him to buy you a brand spanking new corsa or fiesta. I had a go in an 08 fiesta the other day, and the chassis is properly sorted!

Big cars are fine once you get used to them, which doesn't take long. Consider a Vectra or Mondeo because you can pick them up cheap with a lot of options, and if you dent them you won't hurt the value all too much. You can pick up a 2.0 Petrol mk3 mondeo ghia for about £2k on autotrader.

I voted Boobs, hey it was the obligatory answer I feel.
Id say yeah to that deal but throw in the bit about if it needs parts then he has to run around and get them.
Look at it this way its free for a start, secondly when you do get your Nova and its not quite working properly or the fact that you started working on it but havent finished and you need to go somewhere, trust me it will happen, then you have a big comfy car to drive.
And you will much rather crash in the Rover then in the Nova.
Oh yeah, Boobs pls :D

Take the car! Transport is transport when all said and done. I voted accordingly BTW lol
Wow, why was this dragged up?
I have decided to take it, I'll be more than happy with a focus for a year, then at least I'll have a little driving experience before I take on that one.
At least it's not a BMW Mini like most of the girls around Wilmslow have.
Anyway, you could just get a NOva on the side since you won't be spending anything on the Rover/ focus. Most people on here with Novas only use them rarely anyway.
Well, I figured what I could do is buy the boyfriend a nova as a 'present', then I could drive it as and when I wanted, while he's paying for it, and still have my own car... :D lol
He'd only bend it.
...and lmfao @ people still voting for boobs lol
i voted fer boobs like 2 secs ago.

Take the rover and use it as a daily driver, dont forget to wear a flat cap.
Then save some money, buy a Nova, keep it mint and only use it occasionally.
Simple! :p
P.s.As a female, don't your boobs need to be below your knees to drive this car?
:wisewood:
I feel teh boobesh will help us come to a well informed decision.
loling at that poll lol
Just take then in a few months tell him you dont like driving it because its too big, sell it and buy somthing else you would prefer like a saxo or 106
