Flux quoted me £500 for my XE Nova (all mods are in the WIP thread in my sig) i thought this was a bit steep as i had my last XE Nova with them and the last time it was insured in 2006 it coast me £435.

Do you cover post codes CV37-9, if so any restrictions?
28 full clean license, accident in 2005 not me at fault.

skyinsurance
04-12-08, 10:04 AM
Hi all,

ok, first of all - postcodes.

We only really struggle with the Northwest of England, generally, everywhere else is fine. Dont worry to much about your postcode, just get in contact with me by PM or email or give us a ring when you want to go through a quote.

To clarify two postcodes queried above:

WV and CV - these are on our Green list which means to quote you on our modified car club scheme you'll need:

To be free from claims in 12 months
2 Years NCB
Minimum of Cat 2 security

Convictions:

No problem - dont worry at all about the usual SP30's and SP50's.. we need to know about them but it is unlikely your premium will be loaded significantly. Almost everyone has points these days

Engine conversions:

No problem but (for example) we wouldn't insure a 19 year on a cally turbo engine converted Nova.

Everything we do is down to the individual we are quoting for. If you are a decent age, in a decent postcode then there really is no limit.

Thanks

OK well i don't have an Immobiliser or alarm fitted to my new Track/road car, but i do have a battery cut off (you need a key to activate it) and theres switches for fuel pump, and i take the ecu out when the cars parked on drive,or parked in general, would these pass?? (as I'm sure the car's not going anywhere without the ECU) lol

Scott, if it was my decision then yes that would be fine but our underwriters will insist on seeing a certificate showing security fitment. Usually costs £80 for a Cat 2 fitted but I understand if this is not an option for you.

Humm, well I'll see IF and how much it might coast then to fit my Clifford concept 3 that came off my old car, if it's under £100 and it might save that in insurance then i may get it fitted.
Thanks all the same though.

Not as such but we can 'mirror' any NCB you have on the main car. We should be very competitive if you already have one vehicle insured with us.

2011 EDIT - we do have the facility to offer multi car polices in some cases.

Its a shame to decide that based on the fact we do not offer multi car policies? We quite often smash prices given by multi car insurance providers :)
Also, if your car (s) is modified is it covered in the way that we do? Eg like for like replacement on modifications?

Will definatly be giving you a call when i come to insure my turbo next year.

21, 4 years driving/ncb clean lisence.
2ltr turbo stripped out/caged in kt19 postcode

Does that sound reasonable pricewise??

Whats your policy on rollcages being fitted to road cars? as im aware alot of companies will not insure people for this reason.

Admiral couldnt even beat the SINGLE quote they gave me compared to the MULTICAR quote that they gave... eg £650FC to insure the VX on its own, Vs £625 to insure the VX FC under the same conditions, And Astra FC and a nova... Most companies wouldnt be able to get close I fear.

Stuart, I would strongly recommend Sky for multiple cars - they cover both my GT4 and Nova, and were considerably cheaper than Admiral's multicar policy (even when I was getting quotes for a standard Nova!).

Just a quick question, when ever i phone up for quotes and start listing out modifications it sounds as though the person on the phone dose not have a clue what i'm on about and is not taking it in, so regarding this what should i say ? once my Nova is finished i will obviously give yourself a call and hopefully get the best quote from you :) but when stating mods such as I've flocked the dash, smoothed the bumpers, stitch welded the chassis are these points genuinley taken in to the equation ? or am i wasting my time ?

Hi, to get onto our car club scheme and benefit from our discounted rates we'd need you to have held your licence for 2 full years.
If you car is standard/low level of mods we may be able to look at a different underwriter but the price will be 'screen rate' only and the price is very hard to predict.

Well my nova is now insured, just sorted it with Jason at Sky, nice helpful lad.

I rang a few first though, one being flux who my daily car's still insured through, and they wanted £450 TPFT £650 FC

Sky came back with £420 TPFT £570 FC so went with Fully comp with Sky, it's on a like for like basis.

Ive had a very good quote from Sky so will most likely go with them, its just a case of when as my car is still not finished!

i dont think i need to look else where!

Even the company who insure my Evo6 couldnt get near Sky's quote and they were very confident they would beat it so im well chuffed, and their Evo quote was half the price of everytone else!

Well Although i "have" some insurance i just have to say this has not been as easy as i was hoping, i took the policy out the 8th of this month, then went off to Spain on holiday expecting to have the docs waiting for my when i returned two weeks later.

Not so, i got back and nothing had come, so rang them up and finally they arrived today, Ive not been home all day to return and find out that NOT ALL of my modifications have been listed that i disclosed, so now i think the premium will go up, and also my phone number is some totally random made up one on the insurance certificate!

Ahhh! I'm i ever going to get an easy time with this god dam car!

RANT OVER.

EDIT: Spoke to them just everything can be sorted and amended, no extra coast on premium!

Was rang by them twice after arranging it with Ollie through PM (work got in the way) and eventually got back to them when I had a free 15 minutes, very helpful on the phone even though they couldn't cover me (passed last year, they need 2)

Was very impressed with the service/understanding and will definitely be calling them next year to see if they can beat whatever HIC offer me. Which was their, correct, reccomendation for the cheapest company to try after them!

Cheers Luke/Ollie... and whoever I caught the first time I rang back that left a message with Luke :)

so after a quick Internet comparison site i found a quote of £290, rang Sky and got it for £280FC so i have my XE with them and my daily Passat now, but the 1.2L is with Flux as no one could beat there £240FC on it.

Now Fred, If sky wont do the above adrian flux will. As your garage is on your property they do whats called a "laid up policy" which you can transfer to from your main policy once the car comes off the road. This drastically reduces the cost for 6 months of the year. But is only available to those who have garages at home not elsewhere.

as it stands we do not offer 'laid up' cover but if you took a fully comprehensive policy, we could move this down to TPFT for the time the car is kept in the garage.

Some companies do mention acknowledging "claims free driving" but I've never tried it, and I'm not sure how you'd prove it unless you got a letter from the insurance company stating you didn't claim on each policy.

Swedge - the difference between having 0 years and 2 years NCB could be hundreds of pounds.. do yourself a favour and leave a policy running for a full year and then see how much your insurance drops.

I looked at a 1.6 conversion when I started driving as I thought it was fairly tame, but flux didn't lol the difference in that between 0ncb and 1ncb (when I took it out the next year) was ITRO £2600 lol

I've read this again.

What you have said is not right. If you had a policy in your own name, running for a full 12 month period (claim free), regardless of how many times you changed the vehicle, you will still have built up a years NCB.

If the company who are/were insured with are saying otherwise then I would get on the phone to them straight away and sort it out. You could potentially save yourself a lot of money

Hi,

good news on the Vectra and Nova.. unfortunately the all Cossies are excluded from our car club scheme due to high claims loss ratios, it's not just the Escort.

Mike, as you are on our system already, PM me your full details and I'll do a rough check on the RS. That price sounds good so I want to check before you make the call.

Thanks

You only need to read the first post iirc, il go check.

Age:

Limitations of the scheme imposed by Sky Insurance are that all policy holders must be at least 19 years of age and have held a full driving licence for at least 2 years. For comprehensive insurance we need you to be over 21. We will be more competitive for the older drivers with a good driving record rather than a 20 year old with 0 NCB looking for comprehensive cover.

First post and the 2nd section. Read ffs

Well, just signed up with Sky with my daily vectra with full business use and I'm very happy with the price. My coilovers are now covered to which is piece of mind and I can now drive others cars 3rd party again which is also usefull in emergencies.

Hopefully no problems ahead.

What a complete nightmare trying to get an insurance quote, got cut off three times. Then got passed around 3 people, then got transferred to someone who was going to find the best company based on my profile. Then got transferred to a company called Swinton, went through all the details etc, then we hit a stumbling block. The guy said what was the power output of the car so i told him, he then asked what my current car was which is a 1.4 8v corsa. He then said without previous experience with a car of such high horsepower (200+) then none of the insurers would quote me. So i then mentioned that i have had previous experience with my old Nova with a 20LET with the same power through adrian flux etc. Apprarantly because that was over a year ago i wouldnt qualify for insurance as it was too long ago? At this point i had lost my cool so promptly hung up. What a complete joke and a waste of 45 minutes.

Hi,

you spoke to my colleague Daniel who unfortunately didn't do a particularly good job of explaining what was happening.

Unfortunately, due to your postcode we were unable to help you as you live in an area which is excluded from our car club scheme. Because of this my colleague transferred you to a completely seperate company who should have been able to help you.

Apologies this was not explained to you very well, thank you for trying and apologies again that we were unable to help you.

I read this too, i might see what quote they can do the 1.2 now, as they didn't to too well before, but i want a quote that will give me back what the value of it is if the worst happened.

Hi,

we are still doing these for some existing customers but only with one or two of our underwtiters, we cannot offer them to every existing customer.

For some new business cases we can look at an agreed value but each case will be on it's own merit, the car would need to be a 'show' car, with very low mileage, kept in a garage etc.

PM me for further clarification.

Ollie

Hi Benn

your definition of a show car may not be the same as ours. If you have already insured elsewhere there is little I can do but if you haven't, please PM me your details.
