Wiper Relay

Anybody care to explain how a wiper relay works and interacts with motor?

doing a custom wiring loom and would like to know the workings of it.
Tried the web with out much success as to how it works?

it could just be there for the intermittent wiper. like a timed relay

its used to auto park the wipers as well.

when the wipers are turned off, the coil is latched in its energised state until the tracks on the motor go open circuit (indicating the wiper is 'home') and it de-energises.

Could any of you point to a diagram that shows the wiring of it. Is the principle the same across all cars?
