my dad used to see a special experimental Leyland jet powered artic lorry on the m6 in the sixties, it went like hell, it sounded like a military jet taking off, it had a shaft drive & the exhaust turned 90 degrees & fired the gasses straight up. just imagine the following scenarios

1. it is stuck in a traffic jam & there is a bridge overhead.....
2. it has to reverse into a warehouse full of flammable goods.
3. it parks up under a big tree.

it was apparently an awesome sight..
