View Full Version : Its Freezing!
Just picked up the new car and was driving down the road, sprayed the windscreen and the water froze the second it hit it, had to drive Ace Ventura style for a bit till i could get somewhere i could stop to clear it, the fact i had some goon in a Golf hard up my **** didnt help either! :(

Heated windscreens are ace.... there's a group buy going on somewhere :D.
Could have done with that tonight, the fact the other half decided to spray de-icer on it and then clean it with a chamois didnt help in the slightest!!!! lol
Even the water on the wipers froze so they ended up doing more damage than good
you either have a car heating problem or you are being too tight with the screenwash mixture

yes I do.. I used to watch 'Take The High Road', I have eaten shortbread & haggis, Oh & I have been skiing in Scotland, but that was the last time it was proper cold about 20 years ago.
I am old enough to remember it reaching -20 c in Leicestershire because I went out to work in it.
Dont us youngers know what proper cold is mowgli? lol
lets just say that skiing in scotland has been a bit crap for the last few years due to it not being proper cold.
When I was a kid we got several days off school every year because of snow (and the fact that Mum wouldn't drive on snow) but some idiot in Brussels said 'Lets stop the sulphur from coming out of the powerstation chimneys', sulphur has the opposite effect to co2, so Hello Global warming
And when I left school, some parts of the country were still in black & white

oh why must you constantly go on about your age Mr Mowgli from Hinckley? is it because you assume that other forum members will associate age with wisdom and therefor make your posts more credible?

I am older than a lot of the younger users, & I really don't get a lot of modern culture, in my day, a blackberry was used as a pudding filler

not at all, I am simply open about my identity, I am going karting next week & people may as well know who they will meet. In fact, a lot of us have been wondering just who you actually are, you have a deep indepth knowledge of novas, but hide every other part of your identity
I remember proper snow. I really want it back! I only got to drive in it a few times :(

I may not be old, but things are still in plain old Black & White here. Far simpler.

it was, it was just crap, those giant ghetto blasters were great though. remember your first walkman? mine lasted 5 mins before the batteries died, then everyone went out & bought level42's cd, even though it was crap then. I had to fit a graphic equalizer to my big brothers scirocco, and then proved it actually did nothing to enhance the sound. ah, life was so easy back then
I went out about 6am this morning, temp showing -3.
Defrosted the windscreen and it froze as soon as i hit the dual carriageway! Luckily managed to get off the next exit and got out to wipe the windscreen over

the trouble with winter screenwash is that if you put it in strong enough, the blue stains white paintwork
Really bad frost and snow here last night, I dont mind as long as the rain stays away!!
It's not bad here. Alot better that yestarday. Is acually warm enough to snow. :)
If you have an old banger like i do (ovlov), fill the washer bottle up with half deicer and half water.
Your washer bottle never freezes up, and you can clear the windscreen using them on icy mornings :)
Just be prepared for the paint to start falling off, and all your washer pipes to start rotting lol
COLD COLD - I'll give you cold! I went to 50th birthday last night and it was foggy with some ice about - came out at midnight and I've never seen frost like it. I actually couldnt scrape the windscreen the ice was "welded" to the glass!
Had to wait 10 mins for the 4x4 to heat up before wee could move!
Went to work this morning and it was -10. the fog's lasted all day
Although driving home after work this afternoon, went up hill at a village called Killearn just up the road from my village and literally came out above the clouds and the sight was breathtaking! Clear blue skies - a sun that melts the back of your eyeballs to your head and just a mass a low lying cloud with mountains peaking through covered in snow!
STUNNING!
I took a few pics - I'll stick them up in a bit!

when i was in a place that was very cold and frosty i used to get an extra 3 feet of windscreen washer hose and wrap it a good few times around the top radiator hose and tape it on so it warmed up enough volume to spray the window with nice warm water. handy in the summer too it helped blast the flies and mosquitos off the window.
one winter it was so cold i froze my scotum to a flag pole.

inside and outside of windows was frozen this morning at 6am :(
It was quite chilly here this morning as well. So I just started the car up, put the heaters on and left it for 10mins or so. Came back out and it was all defrosted and toasty inside :thumb:

My carb Nova has done the same, three cylinders and cuts out until it begins to warm up. Spose I'm lucky it starts at all in these temps.

Been there bud, i had a 1.4SR carb and inlet on my old 1.2 a few years back and i use to get carb freeze on that aswell, was going through a lil village and it cut out just passing a chippy crowded with drunken chavs...
Was rather nervous rolling to a stop and waiting while the heat in the bay warmed it up to thaw out lol

Dont it just, i could hear all the "awww maaate look at that phat novaaa" comments and a few were looking to be wandering over when she fired up again, limped off round the corner and sat with it running for a few mins to make sure she wouldnt die when i turned round and bailed home lol
I defrosted the inside of the windscreen this morning lol
I have to do that every morning with the recent weather lol
Was in a rush too so used de-icer on it lol :D (yes on the inside)
My god man where do you live....
The north pole or what?
I leave my house at 5.15am, that may be why........
Hmmm, might have something to do with it then really.

its great, gets you ready for the res tof the day
Apparently it was -10 around where i was driving...and yes the heaters were only working on the lowest setting so made no difference really. I would have put the right mix of screenwash in but i had only just bought the car about 20 minutes earlier and didnt think about it lol
