Nova Saloon Structure

Does any body know, if the two metal backing plates behind the rear seats of a nova saloon are crutial to strength of holding the rear screen or the car in general?

you can remove the one that the rear seats rest on but they wont lock back in, i would really advise you NOT to remove the other bit unless fitting perspex on the rear lol
