if you can prove youve just brought it, the police normally go easy on people,

so make sure you got a log book or the bottom of it, with the valid date, you shouldnt get caught as long as you drive sencibly,

if you get puklled just say ive Just brought this car, they will advise you take it home asap, then your not allowed to take it bk on the road unless taxed...

WRONG they wont let you move it, it'll be put in a compound til you turn up with a tax disc and the hefty release fee

remember no tax = no insurance

I'd risk it, as long as it has an mot and your insured u'll only end up paying the back tax and a small fine if you get caught :)

I'm only pro no tax if your driving a car home after buying it :)

Rip up the v5 slip, when you get then you can drive it home. the law states that you can only tax a car if you have the v5. i drove from shropshire to dover without. just don't attract attention

Tow it on a low loader lol

No tax, no driving on the road. Simple.

That's an old wives tale. You are insured regardless of tax, most companies will reduce your cover to third party only without an MOT though.

Some insurance companies do specify that the car must be taxed (and not SORN'ed) in their small print, I've had a number of policies which state that.

wrong (I work in insurance).

You can still insure a car without tax - you just cant get a tax disc without insurance.

Big difference. I could for example call up an insurance company or go on line and take out a policy for my 5 yrs off the road Nova and I'd be fully covered whilst the car was off the road.

If I was driving it and had an accident I'd still be covered but the police would prosecute me for driving without tax (or impound the car if I was pulled over on a routine stop).

Your average chancer will call up and add a car on temporary cover on to their existing policy for a day so they can get it home and then shop about for best quote.

best bet - get him to tax it prior to buying it and then pay for the disc.

Failing that make sure you get the green tear off section to prove youre the owner off the log book.

That's what I said. If you're insured and the tax runs out, even driving on the road you will be covered for insurance. I didn't comment on trying to buy tax without insurance.

It is a legal requirement that your insurance company cover you third party at a minimum regardless of the offence you are commiting at the time (assuming your policy is valid of course ;) )

Get the reference number off the current V5, insure the car in your name, tax online, job done.
