£1.5k + for a good job.
You need to make sure you see the bodyshops work.

^ As above, depends what state the car is in when you hand it over also. IMO 1-2K for a bare/rolling shell spray and no other work needed (prep etc) is about right these days.

Depends on what sort of finish you want.. Anything from £300 for a scotch up and blow over in 2k H.S. gloss (which will look **** after a few years) to £10k for a concours level paint job using the finest products.

How much would it be just to respary the outside of a nova ???

Cle, anything for 500 for an okish job, up to and over a grand.
What where i used to work would chanrge. You need to go to the bodyshops and get a price.

Is it really worth it or is it easier to just paint the parts ??

I bought my nova for £100 and i dont want to go spending loads on a paint job if its not really worth it.

Around the figures quoted.

But you will need to phone around to get exact figures because everywhere will vary and you will find some places wont even look at it

I'm paying 1k to get my car fully resprayed, door shuts, engine bay etc. My mate and i are priming and prepping it at home (then trailoring it to the bodyshop) and he works at the bodyshop so mates rates apply!

not just a case of painting a car, what about panel work? Re-shape's etc.

£500ish in materials then labour at say £35p/h at 30hours

I paid £1000+ labour for the exterior paint on mine 8 years ago but it shows, the paint on the car still looks as fresh as when it was painted. You've then got paint/materials/repairs on top of this.

The guy that did it painted the silk violet Astra in last months Total Vauxhall - extremely good painter.

It cost me just over £2,000 to get mine painted, which I don't think was too bad considering the finish etc.

If he'd charged me less I'd have been worried!!!!

What many people dont tend to consider is material costs..... Using a top quality paint manufacturers materials you may well be looking at £700 + just for the paint alone. Then obviously theres labour too... If I got given that to do as a job at work Id say Id have around 45 hours to complete it in and that would be at an approximate cost of £60+ an hour which makes it a pretty expensive job BUT you would get a cracking job for it! Of course though at the other end of the scale you could use cheap materials... £100 for paint and Ive heard of some paying a couple of hundred quid for someone to give it a quick blow over etc... Obviously it depends on what sort of a job your after/how much your willing to spend and how long you want it to last. Its like anything really If you want a top job you pay top money. ;)

:thumb: This is definately one of the cases where that is 100% true. You very much do get what you pay for.

I paid £2k to get my nova done in March.
That was including fitting rear quarters, removing door locks and rear wiper, painting the outside, door shuts, engine bay and the boot area.
Not a bad price at all considering the job is outstanding.

The tern you get what you pay for, especially applys to resprays.

I love threads like this... you want a mint job but you dont want to pay mint money which i can guarentee will happen. Its friggin hard work doing full inside and out engine bay inc re-spray and in honesty would take a pretty long time to get right i've made the mistake of doing a full squirt for little money before and trust me i will never be doing that again.... Too much work for too little money.

Get 2k in the bank and then go hunting around, Make sure you see what work they do before hand and also what products they use. Cheap clear coats will drop and leave a dull shine after a short period of time, we use cheap clears as we do car sales stuff saying that we pay £70 for 5lt which isnt exaclty uber cheap lol and strangly enough its lensonal stuff re branded :D i like it anyways and never have a problem with it to be fair.

Use places that are recommened as well as there are bodyshops and there are people who specialise in full hits and mintness which i persume your after.

Do as mush stripping as you can, and go and buy some thinners and de-grease the ******* which will help a fair ole bit esp in the engine bay area. Basically get it as clean as you can if you want to save some pennies.

lol, just going off experience mate, there is nothing worse than getting a job with tar all over it and dirt grime etc proper pisses me off. Ive said no a few times to interiors beeing painted as the silicons, and other contaminants along with **** will make it look ****e, and everybody wants perfection lol esp if its going to shows etc.

£200 is a deent price, i usually work on £100 a panel for prices thats paint, time etc etc etc.

it makes you wonder how these car manufacturers manage to build a car with £2000 worth of spray painting on it & still sell it for under £10k, or maybe bodyshops just charge loads of money.

Totaly different, paint will be alot cheaper to them as they will buy it in huge amounts, theres alot less labour too.

i got mine done at my work, im a mechanic but we have a body shop to so i stripped the can interior and exterior including engine out the lot and got it prepped and painted then i reassembled it all, i got mine done for nout (he he, perks of the job..) but i asked my boss and he said just prepping and painting the car would of cost £1500 - £2000 as if your going for a good finish that is wanting to last a long time u need to take the time and effort that will make it last.
so hope that price helps. :)
