i know that the standard xe inlet manifold has a bit the alternator mounting bracket sits on to. the problem i have is with the bogg bross one is there isnt anything to mount it on to, ive had a bracket made up that attatches to the 2 top bolts of the inlet manifold but when i have fitted the alternator to the bracket it can only move so far. the fan belt is tight enough when i have the alternator in place but the second i start the engine the fan belt turns itself inside out and goes slack. can anyone help me please. any info or even pics of how anyone else has fitted there alternator to the manifold would be much appreciated.
p.s saloony if you can get the pics of the manifold mate that would be mint

Try a shorter belt. Duh.
Pics might help any other bodges I could dream up.

tried the shorter belt but it doesnt even go on over both pulleys

You say THE shorter belt.
Get one a few mm shorter from a motor factor. I had to swap from a multi-V & pas to ditch the pas pump & change to a single-V setup. I went through a few belts of varying sizes none of which are listed to suit any model of Nova.
938mm is what I run now. Bought one Monday as it vanished on Sunday.

looking at it i think the problem lies in the bracket that was made. when i have the alternator mounted on to the mounting bracket there is no allowance for adjusting the tension of the belt. its a bloody mission just getting the bolt hole from the standard mounting bracket and the alternator bolt hole to match up
Are the pulleys inline (does the belt run straight) ?
To get the right size belt just run a peice of string around the 2 pulleys then go to your local motor factor and buy one (or closest to) that size.
done myne by putting alternator to slackest setting, then cutting an old belt and mark where it met, then off to the motor factor to find a belt nearest to the size i wanted

Good point Rich. That goes without saying tbh.
It is a nightmare though (or can be). Halfrauds have all the belts on the shelf so you can see what increments the sizes go up by.

its nowt to do with the belt. its the fact that the alternator doesnt have a propper fixing point to hold it in place. the bracket i have had made up that the original mount bolts on to makes the alternator sit back a bit further than it should. if there is a way of making the original alternator bracket fit without using the mount i have had made up

the bracket that i have had made up bolts on to the top 2 manifold bolts and has a bit for the standard alternator bracket to sit in to. the problem i have is that when the standard bracket is fitted to the new mount. i dont seem to have any play in the alternator to bolt it on to the standard bracket due to the mount making the alternator bracket sit further back than it should hence the alternator and the standard bracket not lining up and being a right pain in the **** to bolt togethetr
Any pics of how it at the minuet ?
Is the bracket that hold the alternator to the block ok ? is it just the tensioner your having probs with ?

its the tensioner that im having trouble with, the tensioners bolted on to this bracket and i thing the bracket is pushing the tensioner out of line with the alternator hence why its such a bstard to get the alternator and the tensioner bolted together. had to really prize the alternator hard earlier on to get the alternator to JUST line up to the tensioner. now that i managed to bolt the 2 of them together there is no way of getting the alternator to push further up the tensioner.
If your struggling to get the tensioner to stay inline then its maybe worth getting a couple of small rosejoints (RH and LH thread) and making a small adjustable bar, will allow for any miss-alignment and should be pretty simple to adjust.

Get another tensioner. I ended up using one from a FORD on my setup.
I asked for an old style alt tensioner & the one I was given was nearly ideal, it just needed grinding a bit to clear the top of the alt.

when i bought the car as far as im aware the tensioner was just pushed hard against the head with the alternator pushed up on the tensioner to put preasure on it and hold it in place. from what i gather this may have been what held it in place

Need pics mate, what engine is this?
i have a bracket i can gets pics for you,
on the XE it has a steel backplate behind the cambelt, i simply drilled through this and used 6mm flat bar with adjustment holes, solid as a rock!
i still have the alternator bracket in the garage somplace if you want a pic, dont need it either so pay the P&P an its urs.
