I had an electrical gremlin whilst out for a blast on Sunday (alternator belt vanished), so after sorting that out, I had the afternoon off today so headed up into them thar hills & took the camera out too.

The belt came off again though, so it needs investigating......

All comments welcome. Yes I know the skirts need treating!

Looks good Craig, As said, some skirt treatment and tyre shine would help alot too :)

How are you finding the power compared to your old turbo lump?

Thanks everyone.

Keith; its almost as quick in some situations (not all) but I'll admit it's growing on me. The handling is still a way off where I want it, so I'm not giving it proper-beans like I'd like to. Hopefully a full set of GAZ coilovers will be purchased in the new year & I'll be able to throw it around more.

Loving the racket it makes though. For now.

[edit] by the way, the car is actually rather filthy in the pics & was washed when I got it home ready for a meet on Sunday.

You should look into getting the likes of Craig (of JOV fame) to give your paint a good buff to bring it back to an awesome deep red shine. Just like he did with Marks Valver.

Looking good there Craig. Nice location for pics. I never realised you had stubby mirrors! Like the vents in the bonnet too, very subtle.

Bummer about the alt belt. Any ideas whats causing it? Pulley not inline or something?

It had a full repaint in 2002, but its slowly deteriated(sp) since then as it was in dry storage for 2 years in a garage. The roof is covered in strange blisters (? really needs a repaint), the bonnet was painted after & looks like it has finger prints all over it, theres a ghost of the original griffin decal on the tailgate in the paint etc etc. Its pretty rough but shines up well.

Keith, It's been mopped to death. Shell doesnt deserve the effort tbh.

Looks cool. Good to see it out and about!

What alt setup are you using? Is the alt pully dead inline with the bottom pully?

Cheers. Location is on the Quantock Hills here in Somerset. Had the belt not fallen off I was going to location where the backdrop was the hills running down to the Bristol channel & today you could see really clearly accross to south wales.

Stubbies were home made back in 2002. I always wanted to make a set since the 1st time I clapped eyes on a modded Nova. Bonnet vents are welded in mk1 Golf scuttle.
Alt belt has been fine for 300 miles & has now come off twice in 3 days..... Its tight as fook now, so we'll see. I don't usually over tension them as I am kinda mechanically sympathetic with some aspects of engines etc.

Adam. I reckon its inline yeah.

Are you using a nova gte/gsi alt by any chance?
(engines with a crank sensor pully have a wider alt pully to push the belt out slightly so it lines up with the wider toothed bottom pully)

No, its the 16v alt with an SRi toothed bottom pulley. Alt pulley is a random one from a breakers... pretty sure its inline as I considered that when building it.

Loggin off, thanks for the comments peeps. :thumb:

Certainly looks as though it could have slipped a tad.

Wilson, it goes pretty well, not as quick off the mark (from a standstill) as the turbo but nearly as much fun. I'm having issues with keeping the alt belt on at high revs. Thought I'd sorted it yesterday but after a little sesh up at 6k+ rpm, the belt had turned itself inside-out instead of falling off this time.

She's off the road now for a couple months whilst I address some issues with it & try & sort the suspension setup. Just in good time aswell, as the gritters were out for the 1st time last night. Phew.
