i currently have my 6'9's attached to the back of my head unit, a 12inch sub connected to a 2 channel 350 watt amp, i am worried that to much bass will go to the 6'9's, so is it worth getting pass filters, do they do much, were do they attach and how much are they.
Yes get them. It will give you a much clearer sound. They cost ?10-15 from Halfords. LOW PASS FILTERS is what you want, even if you don't think it will make much difference because they sound alrite get them it makes your sytsem one hell of a lot better. The music doesn't distort at higher levels, is there main function, Although they do take bass out of the 6x9s. Personally, i think they're well worth buying.
The output from your headunit per channel will almost certainly not out match that of your speakers! (Unless they are crap - then why care?) If the Head Unit outputs at 50 watts per channel (27W RMS) and your speakers are around 200 watt (53W RMS) Then there is nothing to worry about!
The speakers will be fine! HOWEVER.......
A Low Pass Filter is a good option if you don't want the bass and the stereo distorts the speakers at quite a low volume. (Any less than 75% Max volume can be considered as low) But if you want bass, which you obviously do (SUB), then just tweak controls to your preference, so that you know what volume is good at a certain bass level.
ONE thing to remember is that it isnt really a good idea to have your 6 9's in the boot with the sub because of the small area. I have mine there and I know it would sound better if they wernt but you dont really have much choice. I also have 6 9's in the doors and have the fader on the stereo towards these, this helps a little with the bass problem and the sharing of space in the boot. The choice is yours, but many people have strong views about 6 9's in nova boots because of associated problems!

doesnt your amp have built in filters?????? I think you mean blockers not filters..... blockers cost ?16 from halfords, you want a bass blocker, which will be probabally about 100hz. Personally i wouldnt bother, you only need bother if you have a sub, because then if you are bridging a sub whilst running the 6x9s all of one amp, you NEED a treble blocker, or you will blow the sub..... and also a the bass blocker would be a good purchase to put on the 6x9s.
