does local garages do this kind of work? ive had a slight attempt to do this but its kind of awkward being 6ft 2 and 18 stone and trying to squeaze under a novalol, its going to be so much simple to ask a garage to do this work, but for the price will also want it sealing with underbody paint?

Define cleaning?
If you just literaly mean cleaning, up on ramps and powerwash the underneath?
**edit**
This kind of thing?

i think he means just cleaned up and then waxy-oiled or undersealed
A bodyshop ought to be able to do this for you. They'll also have a ramp they can put the car up on which makes things easier... lol
I did this.

sorry should have explained abit more in detail, what do you guys reckon it going to cost me???
ive had roughly in the postion you have your car shaun but its awkward,as jack says,"its so much easier with a set of ramp in the garage

It would just be labour cost really, possibly £100 - £150 IMO

I'm sure I saw Joff's shell (before paint) on its side supported by a tyre on the B Pillar. I'm seriously considering this way if its possible to do very carefully and without damage, would probably be very difficult (heavy!) on a 'road-ready' car with an engine and interior in though.

im going to get mine up on stands and paint the underneath white and everything else will go off to be powdercoated!!!
Andy,
Wire bush on a drill is the best bet, get it juack right up.
But when you underseal it or what ever, the surface must be bone dry! Or you'll be sealing moisture back in. When i say bone, i mean bone dry.
This is a tricky one, many Novas rust underneath the old rubbery underseal and stonechip, so cleaning the underneath and then spraying it with waxoyl might trap rust. But this isn't always the case, just check that out before you decide anything.
Also, as you probably know, make sure any signs of rust is taken back to bare metal, as a wire brush just polishes the rust. lol
Good luck, good to see you are taking care of the underside of your Nova! (Now I sound like meritlover).

I'd not recommend that unless you completely strip the car and build a properly secure frame.
TBH if youre stripping the car you may as well invest in a shassis roller that bolts to the bumper bars.
Other than that and if you cant get into a garage.body shop to do it, the best (by messy) way is to get a set of ramps, 2 axle stands and get it off the ground. Then get on your hands and knees and with a drill and a wire brush attachment just wire it off - all the loose scappy stuff just flys off - the more attached stuff remains. De rust/weld, etch prime, paint and reseal with underbody seal (get tetrosyl underbody sealer on ebay - can paint it on).
I recommend you get a dust mask and a pair of goggles though - its mega messy!
but very satisfying
im in the same process atm, very messy.
get big old boggies from the dirt and dust lol
LOVELY!

I spent about 2 months under my fecking car cleaning all the crap off.
It depends how filthy the car is IMO. More to do with the car's history & who & where it was owned.

IIRC he used red Hammerite mate.
Grinder with wire wheel and drill with wire brush is FTW when removing that crap, if it's a flat surface you can heat up and use a scraper too.
Craig, that doesn't look too high! Bet it was a nightmare lol I had (have :() my Nissan up about 4 feet lol and I still CBA

Prolly why it took me 2 months or so, though I was battling with some Schultz underseal that the chap who welded my turrets in put on, I used carb cleaner to rinse that off. I was high as a kite for weeks!
Red Hammerite indeed.
