sometimes when you get caught speeding you get offered a course instead of points. i was wondering is there a certain age you have to be and can you do the course if you already have points?
Depends on the cicumstances, why did you start a thread for this question though as you couldve just asked in your other thread!
if you already had points surely it wouldnt be worth it - as insurance companies ask if you have had convictions in the last 5 yrs - so ud still have to declare them and theyd count anyway (?).

There are only certain police forces in certain countys that will deal with it with the course option.
Then again if you are allready loaded with points and still speeding then serves you right, i have no sympathy. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES :tosser:

i got 3 points an i got flashed doin 1mph over limit
It doesnt matter if its 1mph or 100mph over the limit....
The key words are "over the limit"
Same applies with drink driving, it dont matter how much/fast if those words apply!

What a load of bull.
100mph over the limit would be an instant ban with possible jail time. A genuine 1mph over the limit would not be enforced by any traffic cop.
With drink driving, the Highway Code states that the best solution is not to drink at all when planning to drive, but they set a limit of 35microgrammes / 100millilitres of breath.
My brother had to sit through one of those, but that wasnt with a speed cam, it was mr copper with his speed gun.

The principal is the same though, no matter how much over you are its the fact youre over that will get you fined/prosecuted!
And trust me there are some anal jobworths out there that would do you even for one mph!

The principal is completely different, what's the stopping distance @ 130mph and what's the stopping distance at 31mph.
If I were done at 31mph I would challenge it and take it to court, never known anyone to be done at such a rediculous fraction over the limit.
If you have points on your licence they won't offer it you. Also AFAIK you can't ask for one, just get lucky when they offer it you.

I agree with you on the stopping distances and it would be a very pointless waste to do someone for being 1mph over, but the point im making is if you were over youre still speeding, probably a bad analagy but it made sense to me when i wrote it lol

My GF did the speed awareness course. Really patronising day of some jobsworth preaching about how speed cameras are for safety & not revenue.
Yeah right. She did come away with a better attitude to driving though.
Where Xmph (30) is the limit, people are within their rights to drive below that.
At the end of the day, don't get caught. That's my advice.
you wouldnt get flashed at 31 though would you ,
they are set to 10% plus 2 , so it would be 35 before it would flash

Im sure thats an old wifes tale  There is one on one of our bus routes and bus drivers at work have been done. When they had their tacho checked by the traffic manager they have been doing as low as 32.
I was always told (and saw a local traffic officer admit it on "motorway cops" a year or so back) that it was ten percent plus one, but apparently they have dissolved this now and there is minimal (if any) margin for error!
How weird got a letter last night for my new date to go on one lol
I got flashed at 32 :(
Moral of the story, If in doubt, slow down. At least if you went past one at 28mph (Thats assuming your speedo isn't way out lol) you can guarantee its not going to flash you rather than running the risk of 31/32mph.
Have a look on here (http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp) if you've changed your wheels.

Thats a cool one cheers jack,
Ive guessed at the cav having around 185/60/15 wheels originally (izuzu 1.7 LS Td) to my 205/40/17 on it currently and it shows my speedo should under-read, speedo = 70, actual speed = 69.17 lol

assuming the speedo was right in the first place....
Thats very true, as vaux speedos are about as accurate as the fuel guages lol
