I've just bought a set of spax coilovers for my 1988 1.3. I fitted them to the car using the normal strut tops. After putting everthing back together i fitted on my 16in speedlines to find the metal of the alloy is rubbing hard on the coil.

I'm wondering has anyone else had this problem, i've bought 5mm spacers but i'm not keen on using them. would essentric mounts sort the problem?

Wind the spring up or fit shorter springs

Its usually the helper springs that get in the way or the main spring being too long. Spacers will be a fine fix until you work out what to do with it though.

Yep, had same prob - get spacers for now, then get some faulkner springs 6"

A link for springs (http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/COILOVER-SPRINGS-FAULKNERS-2.25%22-I.D.-6%22-Open-Length/c12_13_130_131/index.html)

Remove the helper spring, Then they should clear.

SPAX dont have helper springs (well mine dont)

The other option is to adjust the camber so that it moves the tyre away from the shock at the top.
