Just waiting for a cheque to clear in my bank then ill be buying a new front panel. I dont really understand how its got to 27 pages aswell . But hopefully work'll be getting done on her soon. The welders garage is now clear so im just waiting to get a front panel then the welder to have some time of work.

The plans are:
Engine out
engine bay welded up
Engine bay painted
then inside boot welded
then boot painted
Rear panel welded up
rear panel painted
then the rest of the car welded then painted
then hopefully strip engine to paint it.

So once the whole cars welded and painted ill start to do some minor modifications to it and get it road worthy and ready for meets :D

tbh mate you'd be better breaking this and look for a better shell with the money you'dget for your Yamaha, when a car gets to this stage it's hard to bring it back, £300-500 buys a lot of nova if your patient but would buy very little panels and pay a welder. I'd have another think, personally.

ad4m
29-12-08, 01:33 AM
yep the shell aint the best but a few replacement panels should sort it out and ye it might cost alot but then you got a mint shell
:)

I no it would be better to break it and find a better shell but i'd be looking for years as there is very very few nova's up here.

When a shell gets this bad it will never be mint. You will be forever chacing the rust that will pop up everywhere! I can see your heart is ruling your head here but listen to the comments on here, break it then sell the TY. You could end up finding a nova with test that needs very minimal work. You have loads of time as you cant even drive yet.
In years to cme you will regret wasting money on this money pit.

I looked for 5 years then my mint low milage sr poped up on my doorstem fot £500.

What to do is tear that one apart, that way you'll learn how they go back together. :thumb:

I agree, strip to bare shell, learn the car inside and out. I bet that shell needs more work than its worth, i've scrapped 2 recentley that were better than that at a glance. If you get it stripped and the shells no bad, you can rebuild it!

At least you'll have lots of parts and a good knowledge of the car to start on good one.

DW-Nova
19-01-09, 11:23 PM
Crack on with it man ! get all the interior out for a start, you'll be suprised how much interior you need to take out before welding ! the side skirts want to come off too ! aswell as the wings, bumpers etc.. it may seem abit daunting at first but it's not too bad at all, take loads of pics when you start stripping and it'll help you remember how to put it all back together, best of luck.

Well your right im going to try and fix it. I do know how bad the rust is and that there's lots of better ones out there.

But. When you replace ALL the rusty metal there isnt going to be much left of the car, and each time you have to take the grinder and welder to it, it will just rust again.

What needs welding?

Spash guards
inner wings?
arches
x memember
slam panel?
patches on the chassis?
All the small bits of rust all over the car
Might as well say every bolt on panel

Then youve got to spend loads on a full respray.

Paintings getting done just after the welding. Yes most panel's and bolts need changed

Yeah i would def try and find another mate becos tbh i think this one fails at being a car but would be really good for spares if you bought another one?

I can also see that you want to get on modding it and painting stuff ect but its no good doin all that when the rest of it is still fookered dude  even if you bought one that did'nt really have any rust but had no engine, doors, interior it would be alot better for you then you could just make one good one out of the two :thumb:

Before you paint anything else you should lay underneath and poke every single inch of the chassis legs, spring seats, inner arches, beam mounting points, boot floor, floor pan from inside and out, sills, battery tray etc and post a few pics. Use a hammer too.

And it won't end up being free because you will need to grind most places back to bare metal with wire wheel on a grinder and then prime it, stonechip, underseal etc. Then you will need to buy paint too or is that included in the deal for the bike? Paint for a full spray won't be cheap. Maybe £120 or more for top coat alone depending how much you need.

Not trying to break your spirit but you are better starting underneath instead of painting things like drums. I made that mistake with my 1st Nova... started painting up bits and then realised I had to strip it down and get it welded.

Good luck.

Also seriously now you are definetley completley wasting you time and money painting the drums and axle and putting new plug leads etc on, you really just need to strip it bare !! Get yourself an angle grinder with a wire wheel on and a pot of nitromorse and start bare metalling it all and giving a blast over with weld thru primer, will help the guy whos gonna weld it no end !! just need to try and get something done now mate !

sorry fella, but that shell is dogsh*t!..... problem is it clearly needs panels are unavailable, such as splash guards and inner front wheel arches by the looks of it, the inner wings and chassis rail tops are naff etc....(i'l bet it hiding even more) so unless you know a some old school panel frabricator to make em, it gonna by full of bodgy panel fixes and you will never be happy with it.... trust me. It would be worth travelling 3-400mile to find a better one.

I know its abit negative, but its true.... working on a clean rust free ish shell is much more rewarding, and cheaper in the long run, i picked one up for £150 a few weeks back.

I try'd a save a better shell a few years ago, got loads of comments about scrapping it, ignored them, spend hundreds on new panels..... guess wot?.... it got scrapped. When the splash guards come away in your hand, and take some of the inner wheel arch with it, you really should re think matters, outsill and arches are one thing, but thats looks like serious structure rot to me. Got to consider the cost of repair, espcially if you cant diy it.

Anyhow fair play for having a go, my 1p worth finished.........

best of luck to you cle, look forward to seeing get put right.... i know from experience its gonna be an intersting project! and probably an expensive one!

Fair play matey, you've got a task on yer hands. Nothing like kicking a jock when he's down tho eh? my mate recently wrote his RST off. when he got it the shell was much worse than yours. Took him ages but got there in the end.

fairly coming on now. is it all ready for mot. remember when you fit new front panel to get it sitting correct and one of the main things a nova will fail on apart from rot is headlight pointing too high.

I'm sorry to say this but in honesty that welding is looking a little suspect, what metal is the guy using ? and what welder is he using ? it just seems a little strange to be using rusty metal in order to get rid of rust  ? anyhow at least theres some progress hey, perhaps it'll look a little better once it's all finished hey, make sure that you seal all the patches up well too ! keep the pics coming.

The plates are probably only surface rusted people calm down :tard: , I'm sure it'll get wire brushed with grinder before primer.

Whats she like round rear inner wings/chassis/spring seats?

Yous cutting out the rot or welding over the rot?

From what i can this isnt the first car that the guy welding it has done, im sure he knows what he is doing.

Glad to hear its progressing now, its been a while but its fairly moving on now.

that welding does look a bit iffy :wtf: but im sure once hes finished itl look clean enough. well done for saving the shell, most others would of scrapped it long ago. once its had a respray itl look like a decent nova.

its taking shape but i would cover the welds as the water gets in all the welds and rusts so treat it with ku rust or similar after its been wire brushed. are those speakers going to clear the window winder and glass.

Radiator was meant to be 1.2 one but its different so im guessing it'll be a gsi one, the fan doesnt fit so need a new fan or ill adjust the old one to go on.

Cle,

seriously mate,

i thought my welding was bad, the cars looking really good now mate, jus get that rear panel sorted properly, and tell whoever is welding it not to give up their day job...

if you want it to last like the rest of the car, get that sorted,

other than that, looking mint :)

As i send to let_nova, I didnt get the chance last night as i was trying to get the radiator on and get it running so i can get it home, So as soon as i get some time on it the rear panel will be getting sorted, It's the first thing thats getting done.

thats cool mate, jus im sure i speak for a majority of png, youve put alot of time and hard work into this nova, i wouldnt like to think of the costs tbh, as i know welding isnt cheap,

but, would be an absolute shame for all that work to go to waste if in two years or so it needs doing again, costing yet more money, time and patience..

if i was in your shoes, i would have scrapped it, it takes some courage to take on that amount of work mate. so thumbs up for that, jus dont let that panel ruin it dude,

Other than that, rad looks ace, i need a new one, maybe slip me a link via pm?

Keep it up dude! :thumb:
