A few of them dont even look like rally cars, do you think they are lost and ecided to join it ?

Jenks

It’s a road rally, they’re not stage beasts. Most of them are totally standard with just a cage and bucket seats, for a road rally you must have a full interior as well

when I was a poor student (20 years ago) I took part in a college motor club 'navigational exercise', it was on the roads round coventry, which I knew pretty well. my mate wired in this 'potty' lamp, we were first off & I said lets park up & work out the route, as everyone else shot past us. a couple of minutes later, we passed them and set off into the distance in my trusty 1.2 merit (did I mention it was nippy?). my mate was giving it all 'k left into crest follows 4 right tightens' & I shouted 'just tell me the next sodding village' he said 'brinklow' i shouted 'we've been thru there, whats next ?etc'. we had a time to finish as it was a 'non competitive event' and we had to hide out at the pub up the road for 45 mins. so I won my only road rally.

90% of them only had 2 bucket seats :)

plently of Mk2s, always nice to see.

Gotta say though, after being at the RAC Rally last week, got quite "samey" watching nothing but Mk1 and Mk2 escorts, was a breath of fresh air hearing Beemer straight sixes bombing towards ya! :P

what kind of classes are there in road rallies? is it engine size, or "experience" etc?..

eg what would 800Kg's of 2.2 engined plastic be up against?

Jenks
23-11-08, 09:09 PM
they are classed in experience, round here, but I think it difers from club to club (i think). you'd start of as a begginer round here no matter what you drive

meh... Do you HAVE to have a roll cage?... The car has a roll over bar as std etc.
Where is best to locate my local club?

Jenks
23-11-08, 09:34 PM
You can go out in a totally standard car if you want to, I wouldn’t my self but its up to you.
I’d have a look on British rally forum then go to the road rally section, ask about on there.

if you are doing it in the vx220, i would reccomend a sump & tank guard as it sits very low.

road rallying is ace, normally in the passenger seat but im currently building a nova up, only 1.2 due to insurance. cage is optional, but i have one as i have seen cars roll and its the thing thats helped keep the shell round and not flat.

major interior parts required including headlinings, inside door panels, carpets & rear seats.

i did my first event this year, and i ahev won a tropy, so im well happy!

this site is very helpful by the way! helped no end so far! :thumb:

its got a huge bar under the tank anyway to hold the chassis in place, and the vx/elise has an undertray to cover all things enginey ;)
