As you know I have a 1.2. I'm 17 and can't really think about a transplant for another year at least. Then it will be a valver :D I already have a K&N, performance plugs and performance leads on my 1.2. Just wondered if anyone could give me any ideas for mods that would give me a few more bhp? I was thinging of maybe a cam kit? or new carb?

Get a whole exhaust system www.tuning.co.uk do one its a 4 branch manifold and back box should give you 4-5 bhp more. its only about ?100.

ok there arent any REAL performance parts for a 1.2

you have the exhaust and air filter but thats really about it

but you do have another option if your so inclined

a 1.4 lump looks identical to a 1.2 to anyone but the most dedicated mechanic

so swap em and dont tell anyone

use the 1.2 head so a quick look by someone reveals the "12" stamped onto the head, a pierburg 2e3 and STANDARD airbox

this will make under the bonnet LOOK totally standard and shitey, even an airfilter will make Mr Insurance/police take a closer look, keep it standard and make out u dont have a scooby about the engine

should get away with that for a year

i crashed mine with a few undeclared mods including alloys but since it was only TPFT they didnt even send anyone to look at it

*shrug*

its an idea anyways

Im 17 as well mate and am having the same problem. when i asked this question i got a slightly better response though! GTE exhaust manifold and mid section on the exhaust, with a back box from sumwhere like peco should do for a year at least. the inlet manifold and carb from a 1.3sr should go straight on and apparently the cam from a 1.3sr as well. so i was told. however i decided to spend no money at all on my engine for the first year, and instead save the money for next year ...... 1.6evotech 16v here we go!!!!!

thats the engine I reckon I will go for next year. The idea of a 1.4 does sound tempting, would it fit with my 5 speed box ok?

depends on the 1.4 used,
the SR had a larger flywheel so the starter motor dont line up correctly if u try to use your box (F10/5)

if u get a engine from 1.4L rather than the SR it SHOULD mate up correctly with the F10/5 as im sure it uses the standard flywheel - if not most 1.4's will be sold with the original tranny anyway so it shouldnt be that much more work (alternativly u can have the starter motor moutings remachined to line them up properly with the new tranny

as for the comments by jon - afaik most of that is true, but i would think, although it would fit, simply bolting a carb from a 1.3/1.4 onto a 1.2 is gonna overfuel like mad unless you can somehow rejet it for the 1.2 - the camshaft would probably work although im not sure how much more lift we are talking prolly not even 1mm more, i may be wrong but i do know the GTE cam definetly has larger lift although im not sure if it would mate up correctly, for example i dunno if it would have the notch to drive the fuel pump

if u wanna keep it legal and do it by the book, i'd suggest you fit the exhaust and filter at the most and leave it like that - dont go wasting cash trying to tune it when u can simply save the money and put it towards a decent engine at some point in the future

i was lookin at 1.6 16v's but realised that unless i was gonna spend money tuning the f00k outta it there was really not enought of a differnece in performance to justify the cost of the 16v over a 8v lump, and since im not made of cash it will be staying standard for a year or so after its fitted and i think the 8v will do me fine - just need to negotiate a price with me local breaker for the GTE he has sitting there (its got soo much rust on it u can remove the wings with all the bolts still attached :D)

Anton- dont bother modding the engine in the 1.2 - whats the point if you are getting shot of it next year? The mod you do wont give you that much bhp extra and your better off saving the money and slamming it on what ever new engine you drop in.

I've got a 1.2 with K&N sounds good and is a mite faster but the 1.2's limited - save the cash, do the body work up instead (if it needs it).

Or save the money you'd spend on the 1.2 mod and use it for the new engine.

Whats the difference in bhp between a 1.2 and 1.4 sr engine? :?:

and would the driveshafts need changing?

Aragorn

both engines use the same block

the driveshafts would depend entirely on the tranny used, the F10/5 is rated to 100Nm of torque so i'd assume the shafts would be rated the same, the 1.6 GTE lump only produces 96Nm or torque so they should be fine

the 1.2 carb produces 55 bhp at 5600 rpms

the 1.4 carb produces 72bhp at 5600 rpms

And thats kind of advice is a really clever idea isnt it?! No offence its not often ill voice an opinion like this but that is just bloody stupid, your uninsured, 6 points big fine and then gettin insurance after will be a big fat joke.

Why not wait till your a few yrs older, i have! Got nova 1.2 at 18, having transplant to 1.4sr at the mo, im 19 now, will have 2 yrs ncb in may, insurance want just over ?100 for the remanider of my policy to cover me LEGALLY.

Just wait a while, why cheat? i had to wait, thats life.

Thanks for reading

Will

p.s. im ill so a bit moody today, sorry if i offended anybody (glandular fever is fuking shit!!)

all i was pointing out is that if he REALLY wants the power he can have it, and more than likeyy not get caught

i also pointed out the TPFT insurers rareley look at the vehicle if its in a crash
