Hi!
Basically, I've had my eye on two cars for a while now, and they've both become available at the same time. I only have the space/time/money for one really and just want some info and opinions on them to help me to decide. Pros and cons of either will help too! :)

So... the decision is between...

A mk1 Golf GTi cabriolet similar to the following:
http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:TRbhpI5Yb0VMrM:http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5956/img9765copyst8.jpg (http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5956/img9765copyst8.jpg)

Or a C20XE'd 5 door 'standard' Corsa: ie.
http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ROlZh50kxPBFuM:http://renaultdevco.com/images/121_1_Large.jpg (http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://renaultdevco.com/images/121_1_Large.jpg&imgrefurl=http://renaultdevco.com/VAUXHALL_CORSA_1.4_BREEZE_5DR_-ID121-.htm&usg=__9coW9gXbin98knhQM0yXmAW-oGE=&h=300&w=399&sz=30&hl=en&start=27&um=1&tbnid=ROlZh50kxPBFuM:&tbnh=93&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3D5dr%2Bcorsa%26start%3D21%26ndsp%3D21% 26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN)

And... is either one of these worth selling my little 36000 mile clean Antibes for?!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Lauren

Keep the Antibes.

Mk1 Golfs make a Nova seem advanced, cabriolet is just sinfull IMO. Corsa has its appeal (sleeper) though is nowhere near that of a Nova.

Sell the Nova & you know you'll be back.

id say if you have the money to spend on one of them, spend it on a bigger engine for the nova, and keep that running sweet

I've always been tempted to do that with the Antibes, but I feel bad taking it out and adding the miles on to it at the moment... will feel even worse taking the current engine out if too!
But then... xe's ARE good fun... ;)

XE, SR Steels and a super drop on its ass.

I R Visionary.

Dont even change the side indicators for clear ones, leave it as it is, but lower it big time on SR Steels.

I need to get pics of my Breeze Blue Nova up.

Not so sure about SR steels with an XE. I'd be wanting tyres of a width that hold the road (195 min) & some brakes that are atleast half effective (think 16v ATE at minimum).

So some narrow a$$ 14" steels are a no-brainer IMO.

Dod

Well ATEs fit under the steels and you can get the SR Steels on Astras and they're 6" wide, the same as Speedlines which happily hold 205s.

I've still got some other Novas, but that's my only one on the road so I will miss it to be honest!
My Antibes is lowered 40mm at the moment... not really too sure what wheels would go best but I'd say a colour that stands out a little more than SR steelies because the rest of the car is such a bright colour?

You guys have got me wanting to XE it now! If the Corsa is a good price then it may be worth buying it for parts too.

Speedlines (alessio) are 6.5".
No Vauxhall 14" wheel is 6J wide.
Astra Sport steelies were 15" though, 6" wide.

Alas, I shall Challenge thee to this. lol I'll get me a set pulled out and check. Anyway, even at 5.5" wide they'd surely take a minimum of 185 os even 195?

Dod

Just checked both GTE and SRi Steels and they're both 5j but I'm almost certain that Astra Steels (same shape as the Nova ones) are 5.5j as the centre caps are deeper on them.

Anyway, my Breeze Blueen as promised.

I used to own a MK1 GTI Cab.

I loved it, but it has probably got the worst scuttle shake of any soft top ive ever driven, regardless of what suspension you have on it. It always feels like your going over pot holes lol

I've never driven a mk1 Golf, which is what makes it hard to decide as I haven't got anything solid to base the decision on.
How quick are they? Compared to a C20XE for example?

Thanks :)

Highly doubt they will have anything on a 20xe nova. I personally dont like driving golfs and convertables are probably worse. Corsa you get pas? but more weight and a boring everyday car lol

Lozzie C
23-11-08, 09:17 PM
I wouldn't say it's boring, because it's got the fun of the 2.0 engine and looks standard. But it definately doesn't look good, which is what puts me off.
I guess a good thing about the Golf is that it's a good summer car... all 4 days of summer we get.
Oh, I don't know still!

Lee
23-11-08, 09:21 PM
It definately wont be as quick as the XE, but the insurance will be cheaper, its a far cooler car, and it will last longer despite being older.

Its a no brainer IMO, it has to be the golf!

Jack
23-11-08, 09:26 PM
Ragtop insurance cheaper? I always thought they attracted high premiums due to the ease of slicing the roof...

Spudly

Tbh in my experience, insurance based upon group/vehicle is all bollox....

Its down to your area/postcode and theft history in said area when all is said and done!
