View Full Version : 1.2spi starting problem

this has only happened twice but is starting to make me loose condifdence in the reliability...but anyway, basically i will turn the key and the engine wont even crank, i then hear a little phshhh noise coming from the fuel tank/pump. repeat this process several times and the car will start as normal.

anyone got any ideas? probably something really simple...

sounds like maybe the fuel relay or even the starter motor. have you checked all the connections? the fuel pump normally makes a small noise when you turn the key to start.

a mate of mine also said check the coil/ht leads & distributor, Maybe fault or moisture.

IS there a click from the starter?

no click from the starter. nothing happens when you turn the key, but then the next minute it all seems fine

is there something i can do to stop it from sticking? or is it a replace it jobby?

take it off clean all the connections and pour a cap of oil inside the startor motor and leave it standing up to let it goes right in. also check the gearbox earth lead first.

seconded^^ check the gearbox earth strap, take it off, give it a good clean as well as the contact patches. to check, get a jump lead from an point on the engine (lifting eye bolted to the head) and the battery negative side, used to have loads of trouble with that
