Ive been trying to sort out the front gearbox mount for my new f28. Got the box and engine in position and fitted the mount up. Im using the chris astley mount, but compared to the picture below the chassis mount is further back and higher, infact the mount sits over the overall hole on the left.

The engine is sitting nice and level, has anyone else used the same mount and had the same issue?

I'm sure alot of cars will vary quite a bit, as long as the rear gearbox mount and front engine mount and all fitted and lined up correctly and you've got the engine / box supported so its sitting level then it'll be fine.
Tack weld it on then remove the jack and see how it sits.
Sure it'll be fine.

What engine / box mounts / rubber mounts are you using ?

Im using tas mounts on the rear gearbox and drivers side mount, the front gearbox mount is just a standard jobbie at the moment.

the problem is the chassis mount site over the oval hole.

What metal mounts you using ? Chris Ashley ones ? is the rear gearbox mount spaced out (10 -12mm?)
As long as it all sits level / square then i cant see you having a problem.
Vauxhall build quality isn't exaclty the best, the oval holes could be different between cars, if your that bothered then measure the distance from the mount to the front panel / cross member ect ... and see if someone can confirm its OK ... i'm sure it will be.

Yes im using the mount from chris ashley, gearbox mount is spaced 10mm. ive got the strengthing kit to fit as well, so what im going to do it -

Weld a extra section to the chassis strenghting plate so that it covers the hole, them weld the mount over the top of that. Ill post some pics up tomorrow.

Using Chris astley mounts I found the engine side sat about 10-12mm too high so fitted a spacer. Having seen where I've taked my mount Chris has told me mine's too low and needs to be about 10-12mm higher. I think he said to me that when you remove the old mount and it exposes a hole it should line up with the right edge and match the height of the top edge. Hence why mine is 10-12mm too low.

that makes sense as mines lines up with the hole above your mount, to be honest ive come to the conclusion that as long as the engine is square it doesnt matter where the mount is welded.

Does it it matter if the engine is not 100% square?

As long as its level then I'd be happy. The only other consideration I've now got is that because the engine is a little lower my tie bars sit VERY close to the box and thats after the tie bars have been lowered. But then I am running silly low.

The squarer the better but at the end of the day the CVs will take up any difference and as long as its not stupid should be ok imo.

cheers for the info guys, i bit the bullet and went for it today. Like i said i was going todo i added a section the the strengthening plate then welding this to the chassis leg, then welding the mount to this. Engine seems nice and level.

It only tacked on for now, its going up to my mates body shop on monday and were going to to all the welding and spraying
