I have a 2l 8v with a F20 box, at 70mph it's round at about 3-3500 is that right? Thought it would be lower than that. :wtf:
doubt it, not sure on that engine/gearbox setup but i know that all of my novas have had high revs when at 70ish mph.

Cant say i pay much attention. Most of the time i lazy shift (second to fourth, third to fifth) lol
bear in mind the nova rev counters are nearly as inaccurate as the speedos

bear in mind the nova rev counters are nearly as inaccurate as the speedosi find that very true indeed as me and my brother in his 54plate corsa drove along at 50mph,well hes was showing 50 mph mine summat like 54-55,but im guessing that double that speed there could be a 10mph difference!
People forget that ALL speedos overread slightly, depending on the car. They have to from factory, as fair as im aware its law.

They don't have to over read, but it is allowed. The cannot under-read.
I did say REV COUNTERS...... everyone knows that speedos are inaccurate, but lots take the rev counter as gospel, when its not

2.0l 8v on an f16 cr box does approx 70mph at 3000rpm.

Would that be why rev counters normally have this printed on them: x100 min -1, or something along the lines of?
lol That means that if the rev counter says 1 it means X1000 To make 1000... lol
my speedo's a bit dodgy so I go on the revs - for a 1.3SR nova (unmodded) in 5th gear my revs are -
1500rpm = 30mph
2000rpm = 40mph
2500rpm = 50mph
3000rpm = 60mph
3500rpm = 70mph
I know the 30mph ones right coz of the smiley face that tells me I'm doing 30mph at the side of the road in my village lol
I think its just -
speed you wanna go x gear your'e in x 10 = revs
or
revs / gear / 10 = speed.

speed you want to go (40) gear im in (3rd) times 10 = 1200
----------------------(40)--------- (5th)------ 10 = 2000
Not sure if i've read it wrong but dont think revs would be higher in 5th than 3rd .
(sorry if i've read it wrong,been a long day)

Nope thats about spot on, my 2.0 8v is the same, as well as my mates sri 130 mk3 cav. Remember its a cr box on these they rev quite high anyway. :thumb:
70 on my clocks is about 3200rpm. But 70 real speed is 3500rpm.

I glad mine isnt that only one :D .
I have blamed the gearbox for the bad mpg but maybe I should blame my right foot. BAD FOOT! lol

You make me joke man :D
I know that 1 on the rev counter is 1 x 1000 = 1000 or 10 x 100 = 1000.
The min -1 must mean summin though?

min^-1 means ''per minute'', in the same way that miles^-hr, would mean miles per hour :thumb:
BTW the "^" is because there is no superscript available in the formatting options in the forum text AFAIK.

Aye tis true you can swap in a longer 5th gear ratio if you want.
I'm pulling about 3K at 80 but I've got a F18 WR in a Cav.

How hard is it to put in a longer 5th gear.
I think ill fit a F28 in the new year, 6th must be quite long.
I have the final drive from a 1.4 Sr Nova in my sport gearbox, but I wanted to get higher revs in 5th than lower as its a track car. Mine does 5800 rpm in 5th at 100mph :eek:

Nice, do you drive down the straights on the limiter in 5th?

I max out in 5th at 115mph :( there is no limiter on the Sport, so I have fitted an Omex, speed shifter and limiter set at 6800, hit the limiter in 3rd and 4th all the time.
