ive got a set of twin 40's of a user on this site

my engine is ported by bill blydstien? and its a 1600 gsi one

i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the jets etc are fine to use on my car, the carbs came off a 1400

here are the numbers

idle jets 57
main jets 130
air correctors 180
"emulsion tube i think" 7772.10

will these be ok in my car?

wont be ok for your car. you've answered your own question matey......'came off a 1400.
'

'might' be enough to get it running so can get it down to local rolling road. but needs jetting to suit your engine

Plus, they may have been incorrectly jetted for the 1400.

Send an email to Matt at Eurocarb with the details and ask their opinion initially, but as said they should be near enough to get it running. After that it would be i your (and the engine's) best interest to get them setup professionally at a RR.

tbh all you can do it get it running and maybe drive it 100yards or so and take plugs out and check them to see if appear to be running lean/ok/rich.

every engine is different. so just go to a rolling road and they'll jet it how it should be

make sure its a RR that knows what a carb is and what to do with it though!

and the setup is more than just jets, its throttle linkage + WOT not causing strain on the spindles (biggets cause of the "carbs always go out of tune" myth) etc

Try these two pages:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080207011632/http://www.hometown.aol.com/dvandrews/dellorto.htm

First one gives good info on choosing your jet sizes. I reckon you're just too small on your main jets, maybe a 140 or 145 needed. Air correctors probably OK.

The second link has some interesting stuff just under the first set of pictures, don't worry, there is some English on there. The stuff about the third "type" of dellortos (suffixed F onward) is quite interesting, means your idle jets should be OK and will set themselves. I'm presuming that from the size of your existing idle jet that your set falls in this catagory.

I'm sure Eurocarb will sort you out with the info you need though.

When you come to have them set up properly on a rolling road be very, very careful where you take it. Dellorto specialists seem extremely thin on the ground, I haven't managed to find one anywhere near me (Rochdale). I took advice and looked around and settled on a place who have massive experience with Nova Sports. They might be good with Webers but it seems to me they made a complete bollocks up of my Dellortos. Fitted a 148 main and 210 air corrector to my 1300! Waaaay to much.

If you fancy the trip, Bogg Brothers in Malton (01944 738234) are renowed for being excellent at setting carbs up. I'll be taking mine there when its ready.

80-odd miles would be doable for me - IF they're worth it. Do you know if they have experience with Dellortos? I could phone them and ask but when I asked the guy's who cocked it up they said they we're good with Dellortos. It turned out they were only good at talking ****e.

As far as I know, yes. I took them my head, inlet and exhuast manifolds to get port matched and whilst I was there asked about them tuning my Dellortos up when the engine was run in.

Ring them up to confirm but I'm sure they are equally knowable on either Weber or Dellorto, loads of good reviews on them too, stick them in Google.

or if nearer chester. a.b garage. **** hot on carbs, bodies etc.
they do a hell of a lot with weber, dells, bike carbs etc. have people from all over country using them.

and dont charge much at all

Cheers guys, will look into both of those. When I was looking for advice a few months back I only put a thread in the regional section, I didn't fancy driving too far on badly jetted carbs although it was still an 80 mile round trip. I'm more confident in the car now so I don't mind making more of a trek.

adam-d - sorry about the thread hijack. Hope you got all the info you wanted before I muscled in lol
