I went to pick this up today. Unfortunatly its not mine and im a bit jealous. I dont have enough space or cash so I offered it to a friend and he got it at a very cheap price. I also knew the 2 prevoius owners and had some idea what condition it was in.

Its an mot failure so its a bit of a shed. The car itself has been off the road for just over a year and sat on a driveway.

We plan to put a redtop in and restore the bodywork. Comments welcome.:thumb:

Its now safely stored in a lockup out of the cold and the wet. Ready for transformation.

yea nice car matey i hope its staying in its origional style it would be a sin to defile a mk1 sr!!!! looks like a really nice project youve got there though!! what are the plans then mate??? if its not staying standard sell it to me ill have another sr lol

Yeh I'm sure it will be staying original although some of the parts are missing already. It did have some black 5 spokes from a tigra and the original seats because the last owner took them off to fit to his new nova.

Its not my car although Ill be carrying out the work with help from another friend. As above, it would be criminal to change any of the styling and so Ill battle to the end to make sure it stays that way!

Plans are to strip it and treat all the rust. Get it looking clean and standard. Then drop in a 20XEV for the time being - then upgrade to an XE.

Sounds like a good plan, but why put in the xev and not a redtop straight away?

Because my mates Vectra has just started to fall to bits but the engine is still strong so we are going to use that.

I also like the 8v lumps - however the owner wants pretty big power for little money. Possibley a 2lt 8v (20NE?).

yea that would be a good one 2ltr 8 valve be mint and still have that look under bonnet!!! looks well nice though! he should swap it for my gte lol

The boot vinyl says 1.4 SR. Thought the MK1's were all 1.3's?

Ernie

late G's & H platers were 1400cc before the mk2 was launched.

Nice base to tart up, shame about it's condition but it could be far worse! I love mk1 SR's, coolest Novas going IMO.

Nice car white2ltSR.

We were thinking of sticking with the steelys or be it 15" so we can get a brake upgrade on there.

With regards to rust - there is some. One of the arches has gone along with the sill and the inner front wing needs a patch or two. The boot and battery tray seems clear, although I only had a quick look.

I havent been able to get up to the lockup today as im feeling a bit ill. See what tommorow brings.

you can get 16v 256mm brakes behind 14" rims

Nice! Well with that in mind Ill try and get some lower profile tyres. What size are you running? Also in your picture I cant quite make out what you've done with the rub strips that split the vinyl from the paint work. have you got a clearer picture?

Right we did a little today. Just stripped out the backend checked it out for rust. It needs a new front, sill and rear arch on one side. Both the doors are suprizingly good. Its got some gmax springs and shocks. We stripped off the side strips to give them a clean.

Quick question - Where do you get replacement vinyl?

Steve
18-11-08, 11:07 PM
Speak to ade about getting the vinyls, although I would advise against it on the door bottoms, they trap moisture and rot out. IMO match a dark grey at a paint shop and do it that colour :thumb:

Car don't sound too bad other than that.

Im the guy who lock up it at! There not much progress cos the owner dissapeared for a while and i couldnt get hold of him. So i pushed it outside so i could start some work on my spitfire and never bothered pushing it in again, probly 2 months ago! We did some work to it this weekend just gone its fully stripped out as it needs a fair bit of welding, also can you buy inner wings for the rear? But its still outside as my mk2 is in its place!

It will probobly rot away before anymore work gets done to it because the owner is lazy unfortunately. I will try my best to motivate him for you :)
