when you see these people selling there 2.0 16v nova but write still a 1.2 on the log book how do they get away with it m.o.t time surley it will not pass the emissions test

yes because it would be pre emissions so no need to test for it

iirc just after the nova was finshed being made or it was 93/94

mines a J plate and goes through without a emissions test :)

i think it was around april may 92 becayse my last nova had a cat and it wa a K reg made in march it had a cat but didnt need it for the mot or so the garage told me

J reg is 92 iirc, K is 93, which needs a cat. Afaik All mk2 Spi's are fitted with a cat even though its not needed.

August 1992, so effectively K plate onward. However, it is possible to pass with no cat if your emissions are good enough (a cat does not have to be present, but you do need to pass the appropriate emissions test - which will probably mean needing a cat for the more stringent emissions).

However, there's ways round it. I believe that some jap import cars have up until June 1994 or something on the pre-cat test, and I'm sure I remember someone saying you can do a kit car thing which has different emissions rules again.

Anyway, MOT doesn't check the engine size, just what the required emissions levels should be.

the mot is not the problem, its the invalidated insurance that occurs when someone crashes a car with an unrecorded engine & then the insurers find out........ big points & fine
