Thought i would put this in muppet corner, but is it poss to get a LET for under 1k or am i not looking in the right places?

paid 800 for mine after i paid the guy forgot to end listing and it finished at 1465!! he wanted a quick sale!!
humm will keep a look out every one i have enquired about has been between 1200 and 2000 want one just cant see me shelling out £700+ for a Let then a XE perhaps im just tight.

just pay a grand for one, its only a few extra hundred quid:thumb:
use a c20ne bottom end xe head and skim the pistons. easy mate of mine did this cost 300 all in

Just use an XE bottom end and drill the oilway for the oil feed.
Cheapest way has always been to buy a calibra turbo for £500 and sell off the othe bits.
same bottom end as the xe, and has lower comp pistons already
dont need to drill the oilway, use the blanks at the back of the block.

I think the days of finding calibra turbos for £500 has well gone. Its going to need a rebuild anyway which isnt going to be cheap if it needs a rebore as well.
Ive seen cally turbos for sale for about £450 a few months back. Sold within minutes and now there all £1200+

No idea mate, havent looked for one for a long time! The Z20 LET's in the Astra coupe will be next as there getting cheap enough to rip apart.

i payed 900 for mine didnt seem right from day one ran ok but just hasnt seemed as crisp as it should and now im left with 900 quid of scrap 3 months later because it decided with no warning no rattles ect nothing at all that it was going to spit number 1 piston through the block damaging everything in its path on the way
my advise spend the extra and find one thats well known and documented and idealy had some sort of a rebuild failing that rebuild one yourself but its not as cheap as those who havent actualy owned arun and rebuilt one will lead you to belive
or the 3rd option buy a cheap one ignor any signs rush throw it in get all excited rag it and a few weeks later be back to square one just 700-800 pound worse off

lol no i wouldnt ruin my -6 to do that to it. Im looking for a project. had a 1.2 / 1.4 sr and 1.4sri got bored of Nova's bought a Pug then relised French cars are crap. Looking to go back to a Nova but would like somthing with alot of poke for abit of fun before the wife nails me down for kids :D
Could buy a XE and put it in but dont want to be driving it wishing i had gone for a LET..

there was a turbo cally that sold on piston heads in 15 seconds, 12months mot 6 months tax, new belts, was up for £450 lol

to be fair i dont really mind the gti-6 my mate had a minter was pretty quick its just it gets a reputation from being french
Always wanted one, i was one of thoes guys at the car meets with the nova wishing i had one. now ive had one for a few years bit bored of it. want a fun nova for the weekends :) + i had a gaming adiction so i need somthing else to ocupie my time.

I do own a rather fine GTI-6
:) Mine is lovley but they are very heavy cars, just cant belive how much they have droped in value over the last few years.
Mines Metalic nile blue, just lowered it, Phase 3 :D only fault is stone chips to front and wheal arch

b) There is no lower valance
That is a Ph3......mine is a Ph2 with the correct bumper. Read the link I posted that contain the differences between the Ph2 & Ph3 GTI-6's and then go cry in the corner some more:wisewood:

I find it's best to keep looking on the vairous sites (ebay etc) and the local paper for either engines or cars. The advice about buying a car with the turbo lump in is damn good and probably the cheapest way to gett a LET.

my mum had a 66 beetle but sorry lads they are one off the worst cars ever i f*cking hate them now a splitty or devon camper vans on the other hand are mega cool!!!!
