Hi all my XE splutters sometimes when you start it and will idle up and down when you come to a junction.

I've recently changed plugs and leads, what other things could it be? Idle control valve (i took this out recently and cleaned it)

Any pointers would be appreciated

Cheers

could be coolant temp sensor (even if not may be worth changeing it there a tenner from vauxhall)

Vac leak or split pipe - especially check the 'donut' pipe that goes from the SFI box to the AFM...

Quick update

I've changed the coolant sensor which at first seemed to cure the problem but it's now decided to start doing it again, but not as bad (only for a few seconds on start up)

I did have to put some radweld in the coolant a couple weeks ago to temp fix a leak.. would this be messing with the sensor?

Or should i try something else?

i had the exact same problem... The ht lead from the coil to the distributor was arcing on the front panel. Cable tied it securely out the way and been fine since

If the sensor is caked in rad weld, then it wont conduct the or read the temp from the coolant as well, though I doubt that's it.

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner about the inlet when engine is runnning? if it sucks any in through a leak, you will be sure to hear it.

I know, though if the fault is intermittent or when cold, it doesnt point to an earth issue.

Yes it is imtermittent and when cold

I'll check tonight for air leaks etc and i'll clean the ICV and AFM again

Dont clean the AFM, you might damage it.

Are you oiling the ICV with a dab of lube after cleaning it?
