OK, despite saying that Donny was the last of the year, I'm gonna be doing one more in December. Good old cheap 'off season' trackdays are a good crack.

Even more fun if its raining!

Just as an example of some prices should anyone wanna join in and book one with me...

Saturday 6th December - Goodwood - Open Pit - £169
Sunday 7th December - Cadwell Park - Open Pit - £129
Saturday 13th December - Bedford Autodrome - Open Pit - £119
Sunday 14th December - Donington Park - Sessioned - £110
Friday 19th December - Oulton Park - Open Pit - £129

Any one fancy one? or a couple?

General Baxter
12-11-08, 06:28 PM
best not be the 7th png karting ;)

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 06:29 PM
That only matter for those going karting ;)

Just got back from Brands today after an open pit day - you live too far north for it to be viable :\

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 06:30 PM
No where is too far :thumb:

Any in car footage from you day Si?

Adam
12-11-08, 06:32 PM
Have you done Oulton before Oli??

14th at Donny sounds good, pretty cheap too.

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 06:33 PM
Yes but not in this Nova.

Only problem with the Donny day, is its sessioned

nathan.
12-11-08, 06:36 PM
Whats Bedford like?
Donny's crap when sessioned imo

let_nova
12-11-08, 06:46 PM
we pay £50 for the day at knockhill. sessioned.

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 06:46 PM
Bedford is "OK" but I'm not particulary keen simply because of their gay rules, one strike and your out.

I did a trackday there, passed static noise test @ 97dB, and driveby was fine for the first 8 laps.

Wind changed direction, and my driveby sound went up to 101.4dB, yes 0.4dB over... so I got black flagged, and told to go home.

No chance to put any airbox on, exhaust bung in, nothing. That was a £235 trackday, 8 laps... nice lol

let_nova
12-11-08, 06:46 PM
would love to come down but too far!!

dhdev (Oli)
12-11-08, 06:48 PM
I'll see how the winter prep goes, but should think I'll be up for doing one :thumb:

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 06:53 PM
lol @ "winter prep"

they're all within 4 weeks, just to give you an idea on timescales Oli lol

dhdev (Oli)
12-11-08, 06:56 PM
I pick the heater up this weekend, I have my eye on some rims with suitable wet tyres and I have a roll of duck tape to seal any holes (ooh err). I'm going as fast as I can lol

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 07:05 PM
Regarding wet tyres, if you're still using 15s... 195-45-15 UniRoyal Rainsport 2s @ £49.90 a tyre delivered

Still on my same set that I bought when I built the car, still with 6mm on them :thumb:

dhdev (Oli)
12-11-08, 07:07 PM
Is a 50 profile tyre not preferential for the wet, slightly more give?

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 07:09 PM
Negliable tbh, I've never struggled lol

I tend to use my dampers to compensate, not tyres :thumb: :)

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 07:10 PM
Should you want the 50s, and you're a student... 195-50-15 UniRoyal RainSport 2's = £39 delivered!

£10.50 saving per tyre ;) lol

dhdev (Oli)
12-11-08, 07:11 PM
That's heading in the right direction :D

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 07:12 PM
You're so tight it's untrue lol

Adam
12-11-08, 07:20 PM
Still on my same set that I bought when I built the car, still with 6mm on them :thumb:
WTF, how have you managed that, mine have worn down quicker just driving on the road lol

New tyres went on the week before Eurofest in Sept, and they now have about 3ish mm left on them

trackdaynova
12-11-08, 07:29 PM
Not sure tbh, I only use the Rainsports when its wet, so the wear on them is uber minimal

When its damp/dry/hot I'm on 888s

Still mega happy with how much I've had out of them, definately my favourite road legal wet tyre... however after speaking to some of the stock hatch drivers at the weekend, they ride on Dunlop S9 Wets, but these are not road legal

Sadly no report / Videos from me on Brands but it was £125 per car inc 1 driver ~ open pit for the day. A friend's car without cam mount so didn't bother. Nor did I take any pics of the selection of 2L novas there ~ 4 white, 1 orange which broke in the last hour.

Chewed the fat with him early in the morning he was claiming some big HP figures yet still ran the standard exhaust manifold. The chassis on it wasn't without pitch either; I've seen less roll in a bakery. The other novas were on the pace but seemed to shy away from running correct offset wheels for some reason.

MK999
12-11-08, 09:10 PM
Wider offset, i.e out of the arches or thinner offset?

BRoadGhost
12-11-08, 09:18 PM
Yeah some fairly nasty TSW action was present complete with abused arches.

I'll be honest with you the standard wasn't what some might deem 'show caliber'. But that said it did look like they'd had a few Kalibers before going out lapping as they did.

MK999
12-11-08, 09:23 PM
ahhh I see, the bad kind of deviating from standard offset, as in cluelessly lol Wider offset would push the wheels out further effectively shortening the wheelbase (same effect) which makes it twitchier/turn on a 6 pence ! TSW action doesn't really imply the consideration lol

BRoadGhost
12-11-08, 09:30 PM
WELL IT SHOULD DAMMIT!

Not sure if any TSW wheels came in a higher offset than et38..?

Riggy
12-11-08, 09:58 PM
lol if you do oulton park , ill come down and watch/work in garage for you lol

Adam
12-11-08, 09:59 PM

Adam
12-11-08, 10:15 PM

id deffo be up for one in december my silver nova is 99% finished for this year anyway! lol so deffinatly interested olly wouldnt bother me if it were sessioned! what i have found when its wet everybody stays out for ages just in case it gets worse or day gets cut short and normally leads to que's in pit lane or holding area in my experience that is, if its sessions you definatly know you are going to get your fair share of track action and to be honest 20 mins flat out is more than enough 10 mins id say so i would edge to wards that!

smcgsi16v
13-11-08, 06:39 PM
Just got back from Brands today after an open pit day -

I was there in the Grey Corsa, what were you in.

From the sudden G force change at the bottom of paddock hill bend at brands - the negative to positive G is harsh

Tis quite bad, not to bad when you get used to it.

I'd be up for a day in December, and Donnington sounds good, never been there before. bit of a trek but hi-ho.

trackdaynova
13-11-08, 06:50 PM
Stu - you definately up for it then? £110 for a sessioned day at Donny?

I think Kris is up for it too

lol @ eye ache tho

smcgsi16v
13-11-08, 06:55 PM
Yeah deffo cos that sounds cheap as chips.

Is that through trackdays.co.uk?

And Paddock hill bend aint funny, it does hurt your eyes and the top of your head. Its got to be experienced to be believed, I never realised you went round it so blooming fast!

Just checked in with the boss lady and she confirmed that we do have plans that weekend....so I re-arranged them and I'll be there :thumb: When do we book?
Any chance of a group buy discount do you think? Surely 5 people booking on a cold December trackday has got to be worth some discount ;)

trackdaynova
13-11-08, 08:08 PM
lol @ your studentness coming out again Oli lol

It's bookable through trackdays.co.uk, but I'd sooner get some more peeps involved so we manage all to get the same session :thumb:

PM sent Olly

Iain
15-11-08, 03:57 PM
I know it's only a bit of fun, but I'd have more fun driving in the novice sessions as they may be more of a similar pace to me! (Not hugging the inside of the track as you lot pass me all the time lol) I'll join you in intermerdiate after I've got my first trackday out of the way. :)

Plus, you all get to take awesome pics of my car. Win win.

trackdaynova
15-11-08, 07:22 PM
Iain - I think you've been mislead when it comes to the different groups... its nothing to do with pace, but I suppose it is to do with track experience, so just go with whatever you feel fit.

PS: we won't be watching you at all, as you'll be out on the hour until 20past, and as you come in, we'll be out 20past until 20to... I'll more than likely be in the pits replacing CV joints lol

dhdev (Oli)
15-11-08, 08:02 PM
ANd I'll be busy chamoising the inside of my car lol

trackdaynova
15-11-08, 08:10 PM

I figured more experienced drivers would be going faster :) Will stick with novice as it's my first :)

15-11-08, 10:21 PM

Hi just seen this thread, i would soo have been up for this if i hadnt just done Castle Combe yesterday, dont think i could afford it, might just pop up to meet people and chat though.

Well up for the next one you might have planned though.

dhdev (Oli)
16-11-08, 08:06 PM
Well I had trouble when I was there last and got black flagged on the only time I floored it past the mic. It was well over on the reading, up in the 100's on drive-by. When I part throttled it, it was still only .3dB under IIRC

trackdaynova
16-11-08, 08:07 PM
When were you last there in your car?

corsakid

i though t it was a no nosie limit day on the 14th

trackdaynova

Nope thats on the 29th, despite Donington Park online saying its 105db, it's not

corsakid
16-11-08, 09:12 PM

I'm sure you'll be reet tbh mate, I'll let you know where the sound boxes are anyway :thumb: there are only 2 of them.

They do not conduct static testing at Donington anymore, its all dynamic (drive bys) providing you stay on the correct side of the circuit in two places, you'll be fine.

Anyway - I have my airbox that I'll take that you can put on, should you get a black, and another silencer/ bolt on exhaust bung

I don't think the side of the track matters with mine, it was that far over the noise limit on full throttle. The exhaust is fairly quite on mine, so the extra bung shouldn't be required, but if you could take it that'd be cool (Cheers!) and lastly I don't think the airbox will fit, IIRC the spacing between bodies is different on the smallblocks, so it wouldn't mate up.
Maybe another purchase I need to make

If you're in the Midlands - you're welcome to come and try it.

The airbox I have isn't 'big block' specific, I presume you're still on a JC50 backing plate which is all that matters ;)

I'm not in the Mids until the weekend before the trackday now. Does your airbox mount the same way as the sausage air filter, i.e. clips arouns at the base and has three dzus fasteners at the top?

id love to join u guys but no money for nada. while im here, any of you lot got any links for lightened and balanced internal engine parts for 1600 8v ? i spotted a sweet set of con rods on ebay the other day. cant afford em for ****, but wanna look to see how much its gonna cost to do the whole block. another question.. when u lighten and balance the whole lot, im guessing you need to keep the original piston heads as there matched to the bore ?? or can u get away with new heads and rings without a re-bore.

Right, just wondering:

What do you need for a track day? Do you need a cage, helmet and minimum safety equipment? Or can you just turn up and run what ever?

Also, does it have to have an MOT?

corsakid
22-11-08, 07:50 AM
we will both be there in seperate cars olly

You need a helmet. No cage or other safety equipment necassary. As long as your car is safe.

If you don't have MOT your car may be checked over for safety reasons. But i've never known this at Donington.

See donington park website for more info.

trackdaynova
22-11-08, 08:39 AM
Glad to hear it Wilf & Kris :thumb:

Fridge - as said, the only thing you need is a helmet, and common sense really. Tax or MOT isn't required obviously, but if it looks like a total wreck with bits hanging off it - they may pull you in for scrutineering

ADDED: Rexy is right, having big kahooonas helps, when its lashing it down :thumb: lol

doesnt matter what you go out in in only a bit of fun anyways

trackdaynova
22-11-08, 11:32 AM
As Kris said above, its all in the name of a bit of fun before Christmas :) no one is going out to brake any records as it'll probably be very cold damp and wet, but that makes it even more fun.

I prefer doing wet trackdays than dry anyway, you tend to learn ALOT more about the cars characteristics on its limits.

That said, I'll still be pushing hard, as thats how I have fun :D lol

All those attending - do we all have at least an onboard camera? as I'd like to make a massive compilation/ medley at the end of it using all of our tapes/ footage :thumb:

corsakid
22-11-08, 11:38 AM
