has anybody seen this advert? i think its really convincing, but its abit disgusting tbh, ''his internal organs carried on travelling until they hit his rib cage and his lungs were punctured..'' but i suppose if the advert gets more people to wear their seatbelt, then its brilliant!

edit: youtube isnt working FAIL!!

i always wear mine. dont feel right without it. ironic thing is, my brother is also called richard and was in a crash without the seatbelt. :(

When it comes to adverts like that i think the irish have the best idea, scare the $hit out of you and hope showing you the goriest possible scenarios will persuade you to take these small steps towards ensuring your own safety, unlike our government who think "oh noes we cant show that it might upset people" id rather be shocked/upset by an advert than finding out some of the people i care about or love were dead through not wearing a seatbelt in a fairly low speed smash!

See this one to see what i mean!

Saw this the other the other day, I had the same reaction as well.

I never used to wear a seatbelt when I was younger, I only started wearing them when my fixed penalty's went over £150 lol

And hers a really shocking one that makes you think when youre thinking of overtaking or plain putting your foot down, its adverts like this that i was shown on youtube a couple of years back that made me get rid of my XE nova!

So, if you have a seatbelt round your body, the impact will be the same as the impact without a belt.... the airbag will cushion your body much better than a seatbelt, because it cushions all of it... the internal organs will hit his ribcage just as fast whether he has a belt on or not, so this ad is bullsh1t.

I always wear a seatbelt.
hitting the dash would make a bigger mess than hitting an airbag....

I once hit a telegraph pole head on at 50 in a mitsubishi l200 without a seatbelt on, the airbags saved me & I was completely uninjured apart from my pride. the g forces would have been immense.

I don't have a problem with safety ads, but I prefer them to tell the truth, not try to shock people at any cost.

Head ons are fairly survivable, its the other 95% of accidents where the cars are at an angle, or the car leaves the road & the airbag doesn't deploy that do the damage

completely true. having photographed and categorized accident damaged cars for a year as a job, it was nearly always side impacts or rolls that killed. frontals even without bags and belts where the driver died are quite rare. passengers on the other hand..... imo the steering wheel stops you, but thats not to say a belt and a bag won't help. and if a belt round your lap is useless why where/are they fitted in most cars for 40 odd years?

Im a Fireman and the amount of accidents I have been to and seen people who havent worn a seatbelt is shocking. Its not a nice sight... lets just make sure we all belt up.

I can see what mowgli is saying but an airbag doesnt cushion your body, its designed for your head to stop it being thrown forward with such force. its deflating before your head and airbag makes contact...so quick. and trust me head ons arent that survivable.

I did 50 to zero in exactly 12 inches, and the airbag cushioned my whole head & torso, & the passenger airbag actually squeezed my left arm between it & the drivers airbag. I got no injuries at all.

the airbag is designed to cushion head & body, or everyone in a frontal smash would break their necks.

I also had a head on about 15years ago in a mk3 escort. I broke my leg on the dash & got a whack on the head that meant I couldn't see straight for a month, & to this day, I have trouble putting names to faces...i was wearing a belt, the car was half its original length.

I hate the use of shock tactics to tell a lie... that ad simply states that his belt & his airbag didn't kill him, it was his organs hitting his ribs that did it.......so the cars speed of impact actually killed him.... and as it was in a built up area, he would have been doing 30 or less which is a survivable, unless he has a brittle bone condition........

we all know that loads of kids are driving round with their seats in the chav position, base forward, back angled back & no belt. when they crash, it is a right mess. they should have an ad about that.

All this talk of accidents isnt nice.

My Mrs is currently in hospital in a coma and has been for TWO MONTHS now after a head on crash in her Saxo with a Vaux Movano.

Im quite sure airbag/seatbelt has helped a bit.

Cheers mate.

When it comes to Novas and the like, i sometimes doubt a seatbelt will make a large difference, mainly in low speed accidents, but its still daft not to wear it.

Hence why im getting a big safe car with airbags and ABS atc next.

You do right bud, people we love should never be carried in small older cars which a saxo is now really if you think about it, as it doesnt matter how good/competent/safe a driver you are....

Its all the other tits on the road you need to worry about, best wishes to both you and your missis mate let us know when she comes round wont you!

My thoughts exactly dude! The irish ad's know the score. The UK needs to take a leaf from their book and put together proper gruesome scenes just like what actually happens. They are probably afraid of offending viewers :S Which is sort of the intention lol! Sit up and take notice. IMO I don't need to see ad's like this to remind myself to wear a seatbelt though, I subscribe to common sense.

Cheers mate.

We dont know the full cause yet. We assume driver error but are waiting for confirmation from the police.

She had to be cut from the car and sustained two broken feet, two broken thighs, broken pelvis, broken right upper arm and elbow. Two collapsed lungs, ruptured spleen and the brain damage, to which we dont know the extent until if / when she comes round.

Drive safe people.

Just scrolled up and read that about your wife Stan. Sorry to hear it mate! All the best and fingers crossed for her! A Saxo is one of the worst modern cars to have an accident in :( I lost a mate in a similar situation.
Best wishes mate.

I disagree. I subscribe to the train of thought that if you're going to overtake, get it over and done with fast - the less time you spend on the wrong side of the road the better. Its the muppets who overtake where they shouldn't that cause problems, but then it doesn't really matter what car they're in as they'll still overtake in dangerous places.

Yep, its common sense tbh. I know people have tales of how lucky drivers have survived by being thrown free from cars, but I'd rather take my chances with a seatbelt and try not to headbutt the windscreen with my face.

im not proud to say this ive been in about 4-5crashes with 2bein high speed 1 involving 5 cars and ours being an astra vxr each time i was wearing a seatbelt and eatch time ive walked away, my uncl was not weariing a seat belt and were as i had kidney failure and a ruptured kidney from the seabealt being thrown in to my torso, my uncle on the other hand had sustained bokes cheek bone and forhead, had to have his hip recostructed and pins and much more so i would advise evryone 2 use a seat belt

Oh dont get me wrong im not saying we should all drive like grandmas everywhere, i will overtake if i can/if needs be and i agree, do it and get back on your stretch of road asap.

Its just when its purely to "be in front" as portrayed in that vid i posted that what i disagree with as there is just plain no need!

Bollocks. I had just written this post when PNG timed out lol

I don't get in crashes, I just narrowly avoid them :tard: I can think of three close calls.

The first is a mate had just dropped me off early AM in his cdti Corsa and fell asleep (he says) and hit a gritter lol The gritter driver says he was doing approx. 30/40 mph. Needless to say the car was totalled! He had just gotten it back from the bodyshop due to previously wrapping it attempting to take a corner too fast  The first time it narrowly escaped being written off, the second not so lucky! A hard time for a 4 month old car! He walked away unscathed both times! Yeah he can drive now lol

The second was a mate was supposed to pick me up but never, cheers!!

This is what's left of his Charade GTTI after he attempted to take a corner at approx. 90/100mph when it was down to 40 for resurfacing.
He clipped an exposed drain (no cover) and damage the steering, ground down the central reservation then shot across the road and wiped out a lampost. He lost his left leg, had proken pelvis, arm, jaw, and numerous other things. The steering column smashed him in the face and he got a lap dance from the engine. Idiot. He tries to tell everyone he was only going 40mph lol I have it on good authority from a friend who he overtook that he was seeing three figures and sounded as though his 1.0 3 pot was close to running out of steam.
The sad thing is the guy has not learned from this! He still thinks he is a great driver (as he used to do karting when younger :S) Despite the fact that prior to this he wiped out another lampost playing chicken (his words) with a random Transit in his mk2 Golf. WTF!
He still pisses about in his auto Civic and Prelude and has not learned a damn thing. Through the course of growing up I am much more sensible, and have not been kr00zin for years, yet he still persisits. Needless to say I never get in a car with him!
It annoys me he was lucky to get away with his life and does not respect the fact. He needs to meet the Inquisitor lol

The last was a mate that had dropped me off ten mins prior then rolled his mk5 Fiesta at approx. 40/50 on a bend. He stoved all the passenger side of the roof in. Again he walked away :)

Completely random but how long ago was that charade gtti, as it looks like the reg is J240 OKH if so thats my mates old charade from a few years back poor thing was a really quick one aswell as had a fair few squids under the bonnet (if it is the same car)

That's the one mate (reg) All I know is it was bought from a fella who is/was on MIG, possibly called Turbo John (stinky chink?) lol He had a fairly rapid purpley mk2 astra LET, it was then half resprayed with 'splodges' of paint which looked like bird ****. Ring any bells? The lad who crashed it is called Johnny, he had nowt but grief from it after John pulled an apparent fast one on him, it got a new head and possibly a box as well as loads of other crap, then Johnny went to Halfords and bought this Wolfrace monstrosities and had it painted lol Certainly was a quick one, was a match for a fair few Imprezas and Cossies up until about 80/90 iirc.
Wonder where John is these days, last I heard he was into his bikes.

*edit 3/4 years ago dude.

Dont know either of those guys tbh bud but if its the one i think it is which if thats the reg then yes it is (last two letters of the reg being KH is a hull reg) and its from hull originally and was a regular in the town center night scene around 8-10 years ago, shame to see its died now as it was a minter and silly fast all those years ago!
The stuff wet dreams were made of lmao!

lol So it's always been into the cruise scene, well it died on it's way to one, it was either gonna be that or the big C that got it I guess lol
I always had a bit of a soft spot for it, needed stripped though and a decent set of rims! There was another black one that appeared, F reg with black multispokes and we kicked his **** more times than I can remember down the 'mad mile' lol His looked better though!

One upside to it being gone is no-one has to hear about his fcuking ra ra ra ra rally down pipe maaaaaaate and piggy back chip lol

It really is a small world at times Spud! Got any old pics of it?

Im not sure about these kinds of ads
Purley because, i never go more than a foot without wearing a seatbelt, no matter where im sitting in the car. Now when i had my accident, both my lungs collapsed and i had damage to my heart (stopped 3 times) plus other injuries, thats with wearing a seatbelt. Then i heard of someones reletive on another site i use who had similar injuries but they died, not wearing a belt. I personally think its down to the written path of life, when its your turn then its your turn, not even a seatbelt is going to stop that
I only wear mine so the government dont get anymore of my money lol

burgo
11-11-08, 08:07 AM
i think the tactic they have used in the ad is bollox. wether your wearing a seatbelt or not your organs are still going to go through the same g-forces and are still going to say hello to your rib cage
