so ive been drivin with my twin 40s on and the fuel economy is awful.

im gettin 18 - 22 miles on?10 of fuel.
I can smell the petrol from the trumpets and from the exhaust.
All mixture screws are all the way home.

Ive kind of decided that it must be because i dont have a fuel pressure regulator. Is this right or is there something else wrong.

Carbs are jetted as follows:
mains 125
air 190
emulsions F16
idle F9 45s
30mm chokes

PS Car stills goes like stink, but runs a lot better when colder.

Cheers.

Mains are a bit big. Shud roughly be choke size * no. cylinders = 120.
Press Reg. is recommended as the std fuel pump delivers fuel at nearly twice the pressure thats required by the carbs. Check the float chambers aren't over filling. If they are bend the tabs on the float holders so the floats sit lower in the chamber and turn off sooner. What have you done about the manual choking system - check that they are off and stay so.
Have you balanced the carbs properly?
