loving the idea, not liking the rust around the drivers strut top and would of thought you'd of stich welded it tbh.

need more pics though:D

Im sure there are plenty of people interested to find out how you got this to move lol

was that converson carried out in leyland by any chance?

adam c
09-11-08, 10:21 PM
we need more pictures!im guessing you used custom shafts with honda inner cv's and vauxhall outers?how much roughly does the engine and box weigh?how easy/hard was it to wire up?

DW-Nova
09-11-08, 10:30 PM
Fair play to yourself mate, that must have been a **** to get mounted up let alone actually running, should be ace once you've tidied it all up like you say, look forward to seeing some more pictures and info, best of luck !!

nova nic
09-11-08, 10:58 PM
i had to have the shaft made up with the homda spline on one end andvauxhall splin on the other end i had to use the hole honda loom and allso had to wire it in to the vauxhall loom the belive the engine and box is lighter the the 1.2 spi engine i had done the hole convirson myself

here is a pic of when i had the dash board out to put the loom in you cam just see a bit of the loom on the right

Fair play mate, i bet that was a complete nightmare to do ! are you an auto electritcian ?? is it all wired together in sequence, i.e the honda loom and vaux loom split into each other ? how about the engine mounts and everything too ? really really interested in this project, it's really good to see something other than a redtop conversion being done, absolutley ace !!

10-11-08, 08:03 AM
hi mate great idea, would you not have used a 1.6 dohc vtec engine with 167bhp?? them crx engines are only 130bhp

lookin forward to pics, great conversion idea

nova nic
10-11-08, 09:05 AM
i wanted to use the b16a2 engine from the imported sir crx del sol witch is a 176 bhp but my brother was asking to much for the car

Mike
10-11-08, 09:12 AM
That engine is lighter then a 1.2?? I sincerely doubt that!

It took 5 of use to lift a Civic SiR engine & box out the back of my Corsa not so long ago!!!

burgo
10-11-08, 09:27 AM
thats the crx zc engine and therefore only 130 bhp

http://www.geocities.com/AGGRESSIVE_BEHAVIOR/ZCENGINE.HTM

having said that its still gonna be bludy nippy and an impressive instal

Says Honda when they build those engines ;)

Shame the shell drastically lets down the engine conversion though.

nova nic
10-11-08, 08:05 PM
i will try and get a vid on youtube of the car running and driving but before i can test it proplery i have to finish off the brake pipes as i have no brakes at the moment

who says it aint been modified in any way? pics aint exactly good and he hasnt said allot. all im saying is dont jump to conclusions straight away, theres a large chance it is standard but might not be!

I really cant understand why everybody wants to pick holes in peoples projects as soon as they want to do anything different ? perhaps it would be better if he had put a GSI kit on the car and some speedlines ? personally i say good luck to anybody having a go !! whatever theyre doing !!

wise words DW-Nova.

rather impressed/interested myself..

vaughanmc
10-11-08, 09:43 PM
Aye I agree with you DW mate :)

Theres a wee engine conversion I'd love to do to a Nova - Spoke to Greg about it on MSN

Crack on with the Honda engine mate - Best of luck

greg1.4
10-11-08, 09:48 PM
aye sounds good, would be very interested to see this going/learn more about it.

never heard of a honda powered nova before. i had a civic a while ago and it was rapid, so responsive. the shell was way past it and at the time we were looking into putting it into nova. does the gearbox or something not go inthe opossite side? something runs back to front iirc..

i know the honda's are a very good engine to have a in a mini but good to see someone is trying something different..

and as vaughan says, best of luck.

adam c
10-11-08, 09:57 PM
as greg said^ im also very intrested in this conversion.what mounts did you use?are you going to keep this engine or maybe upgrade to a b16a etc at a later date?i bet it will be a hoot to drive and its the first vtec/honda engined nova ive seen.how much clearance is there from the gearbox and chassis leg?

greg1.4
10-11-08, 10:20 PM
thats what i was just saying to my mates, this is the first vtec/honda powered nova i have seen..

its excellent that someone is doing something different, brings me back to when we built a ford BDA powered rwd 205 with a T16 body kit..

1600 BDA with 240bhp in somethings as lights and small as a bean can was insane..

10-11-08, 10:42 PM
looks and sounds interesting this 1.

look forward to a bit m ore progress on it.

good on ya for having a go at it

nova nic
10-11-08, 11:17 PM
i had to make my own mounts and ia had to cut a bit of the inner arch away on the right hand side for the gear box to fit.
i allso had to cut part of the floor to get the honda gear linkeage in because i was going to use the vauxhall linkeage but the gears whould have been back to front.

does anyone know what i can do with my rear outer archs to get my wheels to fit the springs are normal and the wheel size is 195/50/r15?

cheers

adam c
10-11-08, 11:19 PM
what offset are the wheels?

Steve
10-11-08, 11:29 PM
Very cool project, will be fun surprising some of the jap boys with that! Got any pics of the clearance issues you had?

Bet it was a bit of a bugger wiring all that up? also, what about plumbing in all the water pipes? just mix n match!/

nova nic
10-11-08, 11:32 PM
ill have to get a pic of the wheels tommrow in work

Good plans mate, a b16 would have been better but as said you can always change at a later date! I'm interested in the gearbox/chassis leg clearance too as well as many other things. Update us lol

dj_wudgey
13-11-08, 05:48 PM
that looks like that will have been a b*stard to get in!!

Mike
13-11-08, 06:25 PM
how was the gear linkage to sort out? is it cable change?

Gear linkage on these engines is a normal connecting bar/shifter affair.

nova_niek
13-11-08, 08:39 PM
Gear linkage on these engines is a normal connecting bar/shifter affair.
Yep it is. Quite smart too, works lots more precise than the rubbishy linkage affair on our Nova's. My son-in-law has a Civic EJ9 which required gearbox removal 3 times within 4 weeks, hence I know the Honda setup. Clutch went out to lunch after 45,000 miles.

Mike
13-11-08, 08:52 PM
^ a mate of mine has a EK4, PITA gear shifter mech when trying to take the engine out lol and they have that stupid rear brace bar that runs parrallel to the shifter mech.
