Old indycars had a 'sh1t brake' which was a block of wood that was near the brake pedal, the idea was once up to speed the driver would move his foot over to the sh1t brake, so when something scary happened, his natural reaction would be to hit the brake, which at 200+mph would be catastrophic or lose him the race, but instead he would carry on at speed..
