Obviously the main VIN is pretty self explanatory, and I know I should know the answer to this question but can't for the life of me remember. What's the breakdown of the info on the 2nd plate? (the painted one)

ive asked this before and noone seems to be able to answer this.

seems that each code refers to what the car was fitted with at factory. i.e one code for grey dash, one code for each type of trim, one code for colour. and so on.

i was thinking of starting a thread with a pic of several of these plates and what is known to have been fitted to the car from factory.

ill put up my sport one, my old sr one (if dan can send a pic of it) and my old 1.2 one. and with each i will state exactly what each car had.

if other people can do the same we may be able to work out what each code means...

On the EPC there's a page where you can type them codes in and it'll tell you what it means, but it doesn't cover all of them.

If anyone wants to know about his chassis info...and if it is officialy recorded to GM database THEN I CAN HELP with pm (as some member did and gave him all of the usefull info) so it is bad for you & for your forum members to be helped?

Or else it will be better to refer jokes than real helpful notes

As for the wanted section.....if someone wants something .....all of the extra
help is needed even if the part is in Mongolia or Africa.

What does a list of parts originally fitted to a car tell someone 15-25 years after the car was made, unless they are making it concours of course. I'd sooner know what was fitted to it NOW rather than when it was made but hey.

From the other hand you are right but some people want to know the production codes as a history and not as reality and that is for because some models can be sold for ex as a GSI model and according to the factory they were made as 1.2 chassis type and not as an E16SE,C16SE.

So it will be bad if you believe that you have bought a GSI model and without telling to find out in a latertime that this was a 1.0 or 1.2 mod....('90 models were mostly C14NZ ones)
