View Full Version : Handbrake cable/s
After never owning a Nova before and having this as a runabout, I don't know a huge amount about them.
I understand that Nova's have 2 handbrake cables, one for each side as opposed to a split version as fitted to my Astra.
Can you tighten these or will have to buy 2 new cables? It's stretched to buggery so much so that you can pull the handbrake lever off the ratchet so it's in a near vertical position.
Cheers
Firstly check that is still connected to the cable.
You can tighten it up. Go under you car near the rear axle. you will see the handbrake cable. They are joined together by a screw thread on one and a nut on the other. Just tighten this.
If this confuses you just look under the car. It is quite self explanitory. :)
get your back brakes looked at first, the self adjusters are about as reliable as a tissue paper condom..
erm, by 2 cabls your not thinking that theres 2 running to the lever itself are you?
there are two calbes that split on the rear beam. my handbrake went verticle with no stretching, there was a washer type thing missing from a holder just under the rear passenger foot wells (in the center obviously)
fit a washer job done ;)
oh and the brake shoes were fine too lol
Yeah, I just meant they come as a seperate unit as opposed to my Astra. Well, if there's the adjuster nut, then I'll play about with that.
I am sure it's the cables as the handbrake feels so slack.
Cheers
