After spending a few hours on detailing world I decided that the paint work on my car wasn't what it could be. So, I decided to get my paint work properly detailed by a good friend. We spent a day and a half on the car getting the exterior right.
so here we go...........
Car when he arrived, I was ashamed http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/laughing.gif......... Yes they are cat paw prints, our little cat got locked in the garage for an hour or so and decided to get comfy on my roof, although there are no long term damage from it.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Before2.jpg
Still some good reflections

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Before4.jpg
First job was to remove side skirts and rear wiper (yes i was that much of a pain for him, but I had new unpainted skirts to go on)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Before8.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Before9.jpg
Then he sprayed the car with some Citrus spray (meens nothing to me, but seems to work?) mixed with some snow foam (which he has left me some of http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) left to stand for 5 minutes.....

then rinsed off.....
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Before14.jpg
Washed with Duragloss (glad I started to write the names down at this point) wash concentrate and dried with drying towels ready to look at the damage?
And here's what he was up against.......
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Damage4.jpg
don't know what all the fuss was about http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/confused.gifhttp://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/shocked.gif
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Damage5.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/Damage6.jpg
The bodywork seemed to be covered in a over spray which is strange, but all fixed now
So using Megs Orange soft cutting pad and Menz IP here's a 50/50 shot after correction...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/50501.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/clarecraig/Marks%20Nova/50502.jpg
Once he had found the right combination of compound and pad he worked his way around the car to remove all the imperfections then again with a finishing pad and some final finishing compound I belive (menzernna or something sounding similar?)..........

also cleaned and sealed the exhaust..........

Yes its big but car wouldn't suit a smaller tail pipe.
top polish I remember well as I took a picture http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif It was 2 coats of Collinite

The wheels also got changed, as per a previous post. I also sealed these with his Jetseal 109, which I got a bit of a bug for and did my calipers and just about anyting I could get my hands on after he told me how good it was http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif

Wheels im still not convinced on the colour, they match the cars gloss black perfect but I'm thinking maybe dark grey and colour code the engine bay bts
Took about 10 hours in total
On tuesday i'll have some better pics and i'll be doing the interior. Few more new bits in there to come. And the engine bay wil be cleaned in preperation for the weekend
awesome. you dont appreciate how bad it is until you put it right
undecided on the change of skirts tho

Was never a fan of the Astra wheels tbh but those RL's look stunning, would look cool in grey though! With the unpainted skirts aswell the car looks a thousand times better IMO.

My thoughts exactly.
Also what are the fogs from? mk2 Astra GTE? and how do they fit into the bumper as im after fogs for my GSi front bumper.
Is having your car washed really a project? seriously?
tempted to move to general chat tbh

I'm going to be doing a few more bits over the winter so it'll turn into a project I suppose. I wouldn't say that the paint is classed as a project, nor is it general chat?
hmmm sure hes a pro?.... his foam "gun" isnt exactly top notch..... even rank amateurs such as myself has/have a real big boys foam gun lol

Paintwork is looking mint now mate, think I'll be giving him a shout to come and sort mine out soon.
I don't think the car or the foam care what "Gun" the foam comes from... Does the same job!! Doesn't exactly not make him a pro..

Looks absolute perfect now Mark - Wheels do look good
I think they have made it go from a Show-Car to a Track'ish car now, they look awsome :)
Grey sideskirts look ideal on it as well!
Stunning! :D
He's done a great job on the paint + the wheels looks 10x better imo, but the skirts are no-no :(

Dark colours don't suit bodywork.
The finish of the paint is exceptional though.
That looks ace Mark!, i think the wheels would look better in a more anthresite/grey colour!
It looks so much better on those rims(ive never been a fan of the old ones)
Looks spot on now, but colour coded skirts looked better imo
Thats quite some shine too! Nice work
yep looks much better on the racelines mark!
now go out and get it dirty....

Will have another 6months rent added to the screen on Tuesday so thats what I plan to do lmfao
Skirts are marmite, love them or hate them. Either way I think they'll be staying, with new grey door handles as well

Very nice Mark, grey wheels and grey bumper inserts would look gd

how much was the detail
Skirts look better unpainted. Car could do with lowering a bit more though.

Price varied from original quote as I moved the goal posts. He doesn't have a set price. It depends on what you want doing

This pic consernes me, as thats no a good way to buff/polish/mop a wing.
I know craig knows what hes doing, but holding the head to the edges like that is very bad.

He was moving at the time but sadly my pictures aren't holograms where you can see it moving
Yeah i know what you mean, but even at a low speed you are still on the two edges insted of the main pannel, so the edge is getting all the pressure and heat, which is how you get burn makes.
Just more of a tip to anyone that does it them selfs..

Meh its only paint, car has that many coats on lacquer its solid pmsl
You'll be amased at the damage going thru just one layer can do. Only saying it as a warning.

It was on very low rpm fella, there was a small mark (Not novacabrio lol) on the drivers wing which only needed tickling and the pad was only on the car for seconds :thumb:
