View Full Version : Painting Bumpers
Not on a Nova but a Corsa so the bumpers and arches arent as textured. I'm gonna use Rattle cans and Halfrauds Filler Primer, but how long should I leave the Primer before I paint over it?
Also, do I need a different primer if I use Satin Paint as it seems to be different to Gloss paint.
Also, its pretty cold these days, will this effect the spray? Dont really wanna be stinking the house out from Painting from the Back room.

Filler primer normally takes longer to dry properly I've always found. Don't wanna sound stupid but let it dry properly for quite a while, not sure in terms of exact time. With colder weather it will probably take even longer. Maybe some Halogen heaters around the sprayed area might do the trick.
From experience I've used satin black paint with regular primer and its been fine as long as the bumper has been prepared properly together with the primer properly applied.
Yes it most probably will, check the Hellfords can and it will give you a recommendation of whats the best temp to spray IIRC needs to be at a good room temp. Especially laquer if you're gonna use any. They can look a bit crappy if you spray when its too cold or too hot.
[Edit] 1000th post... yay me lol
Cold is bad for paint. Primer should be the same, I think Halfords stuff says 24 hours between coats, although tbh I usually leave about 30-60 mins between coats of the same stuff, then 24 hours before coat of a different paint.
Well as its a Corsa, 1 coat of Primer should do the trick. SO a day before spraying the paint then so. Looks like the cars not going anywhere for the majority of the weekend so.

Id say deffo a day once you've sprayed the filler primer in a warm enviroment. It will set and dry properly as its thicker then the standard shizzle.
Warming the primer is warm water is a handy trick to helping it dry too. 24hours some where warm will be fine.
You'll allso want to flat the primer down when its dry. 800wet and dry (wet) tillits nice and smooth. Then your ready to paint.
Purrfect. I'll keep you posted.

Well a stroke of potential luck may have struck me. 8.30 this morning I missed a call from a number I dont know. Ignored it with the intention of calling back later, then the phone went off in my hand so I answered it. A chap from 5 miles down the road looking to swap his Sierra Saphire Cossie Rep for my Corsa as he cant insure the Sierra. So, should be interesting....

did you get the cossie then?
Na, I decided I needed Cash as opposed to something that'd get me in more trouble.
