Just found a safe........

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice really!

Just got back from walking the dog, and while I was out I found a safe! It was found in a place where it looks to have been used for flytipping where two tracks join to go under a motorway bridge. You could get down there in a car but I wouldnt take my Focus down there as its quite tight and would definatly get scratched. While I was there, I also found a Mk2 Nova front bumper, a credit card and some business cards. The credit card and business cards names tallied up so I called the guy and explained what i'd found, he said that his house had been burgled and they robbed his house and car, the car had been recovered locally and he asked me where I found it and if I could destroy the card which I have done. I asked him if a safe had been stolen which he said no.

Which leaves me with a predicament- I have left the safe where I found it but something keeps telling me to go back and get it. If somehow I managed to get it open and there was indication to who the owner is then obviously i'd contact them and offer them to come collect their belongings but what do I really do?

I have checked for any serial numbers but there is no markings except for something that says something Liverpool, its white in colour, bloody heavy and about a foot and a half squared in size. There is also no visible marks where someone could have tried to get inside.

Its out in the middle of nowhere but i've got a LR Disco I can borrow to go get it with if need be, and it also means if I did collect it somehow I have to get into it!

Probably I should ring the police and let them know my findings but it also relies on the theory 'what if?'!!!!

Could it just be dumped or stolen?
Could it be empty or contain something?

Any suggestions welcomed!

Yeah is it a key or number dial lock? a Key'd lock would make it easier to break in with traditional methods but, if you wanted to learn safe cracking, the number dial would be interesting, depends how old it is, what materials have been used in its construction etc, I'd personally go and get it, the police would not care if you've found a safe

If its stolen you could face being charged for handling stolen goods.. The law says that if they can prove you had any reason to think it might be stolen or iffy you can be charged..

Lets be realistic though,whoever took it has obviously taken whats in it by now.I found a safe before totally empty.People who steal things like that are organised criminals not some sweaty baghead looking for his next bosh

we get these in at the garage all the time, comtect the police, tell them what youve found and theyll get the local recovery firm to uplift it. do this asap

This is a heavy duty dometic safe, I can lift it by myself but wouldnt want to carry it any distance over 5mtrs!

mythbusters did that one where you drill a hole and fill thesafe full of water, then you only need to used a much smaller explosion to blow the door off as liquid doesnt cushion the explosion like gas (air) does when it compresses!

Right as there has been some speculation whether this whole story is fake or not (not neccessarily on this forum) due to my absence on the computer because i've been working and servicing a Shogun, i've finally got round to uploading the pictures for all to see.

The 'scabby tissue' is the matting that goes inbetween the inner and outer cores and my colleague put the bottle in there once we found there was nothing inside!
